Priority Review Date (Note - Posting may close at any time) Job Summary Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
You will help design, implement, and maintain the infrastructure, tools, and processes necessary to support various research compute needs at the university. You will collaborate closely with other teams at CHPC to ensure the smooth deployment and operation of our applications, as well as onboarding new and existing projects from researchers while also working on continuous improvement initiatives to enhance our DevOps practices.
It is anticipated that this position will involve access to federally funded research that is subject to federal sponsorship regulatory restrictions (e.g. certain export control, data security, acquisition regulations, or federal contract clauses) that mandate U.S. citizenship participation only.
Responsibilities - Develop & maintain scalable, reliable, on-premise DevOps platforms with ability for bursting to cloud ( AWS , Azure, GCP ).
- Infrastructure Automation: Design, implement, manage, and maintain tools with industry best practices for infrastructure as code ( IAC ) solutions.
- Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines.
- Containerization and Orchestration: Manage containers (Podman/Docker/Apptainer/Singularity), build custom images, utilize containers for supporting research processes and pipelines.
- Security: Implement and enforce security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Scripting and Automation: Develop and maintain automation. (Ansible, Gitlab/Github)
- Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring optimal system performance and scalability.
- System Administration: Attend to/automate various systems for which you will be responsible.
- Training and Mentoring: Mentor other members, sharing your knowledge and best practices.
- Collaborate with multiple teams and researchers.
Minimum Qualifications - 3-5 years developer & system administration experience
- Proficiency with Python, Go or another backend programming language (Java, C , etc.)
- Proficiency with version control, Git
- Familiarity with CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD)
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems
- Familiarity with containers and container orchestration (Podman/Docker)
- Experience writing API integrations for supporting DevOps workflows
- Strong communication skills
- Strong documentation skills
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to explore and adopt new technologies and platforms
Preferences - Expertise with Go, Python, Bash, Git
- Expertise with Linux ( RHEL )
- Familiarity with Ansible
- Familiarity with Cloud ( AWS , Azure, GCP )
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and their security and performance
- Experience with databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL
- Experience with design, implementation and support of Kubernetes
- Experience with design, implementation and support of OpenStack or similar
- Understanding of VPCs, subnets, route tables, load balancing, firewalls, etc.
