Dell Medical School is seeking a Development Specialist for External Relations.
Purpose
The Development Specialist, External Relations, is responsible for managing and enhancing the healthcare system's relationships with external stakeholders, including donors, community partners, and media. This role supports fundraising efforts, coordinates public relations activities, and ensures consistent and effective communication. Reporting to the Director of Development, the position collaborates closely with the marketing, finance, and senior development teams. Peer roles include Public Relations Specialists, Fundraising Coordinators, and Community Outreach Managers.
Responsibilities
Stakeholder Engagement
• Develops and maintains relationships with key external stakeholders.
• Coordinates meetings and events with donors and community partners.
• Ensures timely and effective communication with stakeholders. Public Relations
• Processes all philanthropic gifts and pledges.
• Ensures timely issuance of gift receipts and acknowledgment letters.
• Reconciles gift records with the finance department. Fundraising Support
• Assists in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns.
• Provides support for donor cultivation and stewardship activities.
• Prepares fundraising materials and presentations. Communication Management
• Creates and distribute newsletters, brochures, and other communication materials.
• Maintains the organization's website and social media presence.
• Ensures consistency in messaging across all communication channels. Event Coordination
• Plans and execute special events, including fundraising galas and community outreach programs.
• Coordinates logistics, including venue selection, catering, and guest lists.
• Collaborates with internal teams to ensure successful event execution. Marginal or Periodic Functions
• Conduct research on potential donors and community partners.
• Support special projects and initiatives as needed.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends.

• Ability to coordinate logistics and manage event details.
• Strong organizational skills Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree. Minimum of 3 years of experience in external relations, public relations, or a related role. Experience with media relations and event coordination. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in external relations, public relations, or a related role. Experience in a healthcare or nonprofit setting. Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) or similar certification.
Salary Range
• $58,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions
• May work around standard office conditions.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
