Description: The Designer Services Representative DSR role is a field-based sales and support position primarily responsible for sales activities from lead generation to product and color specification. Interior Designers and other design professionals comprise a customer base of critical importance to Dunn-Edwards. Designer Services Representatives exist to ensure - through education, support services, and consultative selling practices - that these professionals specify Dunn-Edwards products and/or colors on their projects, and further that those specifications translate directly into sales of Dunn-Edwards products. Throughout the specification development process, the DSR must also determine which products are the most appropriate for the project given the application being addressed and the needs of the end user. It's is equally important to continue to place the Perfect Palette color system in the offices of design professionals.
In order to proper execute this role DSR's are expected to regularly and customarily work more than 75% of their working time in the field, outside a fixed workplace, defined as the Dunn-Edwards store location as the DSR's Home Store.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The DSR is an integral part of the Dunn-Edwards sales team and, as such, must always keep in mind the objective of selling Dunn-Edwards products and services.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with an assigned territory of Interior Designers and other design professionals - the DSR's customer base.
- Actively seek-out new or non-specifying design professionals to add to customer base.
- Conduct regular calls at a frequency established by the DSR based upon numerous factors including specification potential.
- Consult with design professionals to prepare proper job specifications that not only serve the architect and his client, the owner, but also ensure that Dunn-Edwards will secure the job through the painting contractor in order to increase sales of Dunn-Edwards products.
- Prepare and/or present educational seminars including, but not limited to AISD-approved CES courses.
- Act as an information and education resource for customer base - either know the answer or find it.
- Provide feedback to Product Management on current products and on gaps in the current product portfolio especially including color.
- Be a product expert - able to provide Outside Sales and Store team members with practical surface/system recommendations.
- Manage an expense budget including the discretionary use of no-charge samples and trade show budgets.
- Manage the lead generation process from origination of a lead from a lead service within SAP CRM, including dissemination of the leads to the appropriate District Sales Manager DSM and/or Outside Sales Representative OSR .
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is an important link to our customer base. The DSR must join and participate in a local chapter including monthly meetings and trade shows. In addition, other industry affiliations the DSR may choose to be involved with are as follows: IIDA, IFDA, TRIC or other organizations that are applicable.
DSR's are accountable for growth in their assigned territory and will be called upon to partner with and sometimes lead sales teams that pursue key projects. Reflect a positive attitude; be enthusiastic, friendly and professional. Demonstrate a strong desire to succeed. Be known as a self-starter, energetic and motivated.
Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no subordinate supervisors reporting to this position. There are no other non-supervisory employees who report directly to this job.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelors degree plus one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ASR position demands a working knowledge of architectural plans (blueprints) including reading and interpretation within 90 days of accepting the position.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effective present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, and profitability; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certifications or designations are recognized by architects and signify a commitment to professionalism in representing Dunn-Edwards. Attaining CDT, LEED and other achievements are encouraged and may become a part of a development plan.
