Position Description:

The Systems Design & Sales Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for developing project scope documents, system designs and design drawings, detailed material and equipment lists, developing project cost, preparing system installation proposals and creating final project as-built documentation. The Systems Design & Sales Engineering Supervisor will collaborate with our customers, design build teams, and installation partners to provide guidance on all aspects of our structured cabling project deliverables. The Systems Design & Sales Engineering Supervisor will lead our design and sales engineering team to ensure the continued quality of high-level and detailed product deliverables remains reliable and forward leaning in the ever growing and advancing technological landscape.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Review customer project Request for Proposals, assess Design-build development criteria, and evaluate project performance expectations with the customer user team to prepare project system designs, scope of work narratives, installation equipment lists, and installation proposal packages.
  • Perform site visits for data collection and evaluation of telecommunications and building technologies systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes.
  • Refine, develop, and incorporate standard installation and deliverable guidelines for Telecom Equipment Rooms, Work Areas, Telecom Pathways, Design Drawings, Shop Drawings and As-Built Drawings.
  • Work with the Installation and Operations team to hand-off awarded project scope and design packages with a clear understanding of the customer requirements and expectations. Support the Installation and Operations team as a technical resource through all phases of the project schedule.
  • Manage additional design and estimating personnel resource performance through leading, mentoring and managing practices that best serve the company's goals while encouraging and motivating the team to perform with the highest standards and deliver the best customer experience.
  • Organize design & sales engineering project tracking and reporting, create and manage master project design and RFP deliverable schedule list, and conduct regularly scheduled design & sales engineering meetings to guide all resources toward successful fulfilments of customer requests.
  • Maintain and manage existing installation partner resource relationships including those with manufacturers, distributors, and design & sales engineering resources, ensuring their readiness, reliability, and quality are aligned with our company goals and customer experience.
  • Foster and preserve a culture of honesty, professionalism, high quality customer service, and demonstrate prompt and clear communication in all levels of interaction within the Capitol Cable Communication's company and with all customers and business partners.
  • Develop and grow the design/sales engineering team by promoting professional training & skills development opportunities, setting performance goals and expectations, encouraging and enabling team and individual team member success and pride in service and accomplishment.
  • Participate in the recruitment of additional employee and contract partner resources to meet the customer project defined needs, including orientation, training, and integration of the new employee and contract partner teams into the organization.

Key performance indicators and tasks:

  • Perform Design & Sales Engineering tasks, including material specifications & cost estimating, labor cost estimating, scope of work narrative development, system design drawing sets and proposal packages.
  • Supervise, guide, and assign tasks to design support staff.
  • Communicate with clients and business partners to form scope performance and delivery expectations.
  • Coordinate and conduct project award and kickoff meetings with installation team and support installation team with scope & technical resources.
  • Perform site reviews and walkthroughs.
  • Achieve project profitability goals.
  • Coordinate personnel skills development and training.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in personnel review and policy implementation.
  • Stay updated with current industry knowledge, trends, and certifications.
  • Utilize and maintain a company vehicle responsibly.
  • Represent the company with professionalism and integrity.
  • Perform all duties safely and to the highest quality standards.
  • Provide top-tier customer service through professional and prompt communication (verbal and written).

Skill Requirements:

  • Active and current BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) or 7 years of related Structured Cabling Project Design and Sales Engineering experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten or more years of related industry experience is preferred.
  • Possession of recognized industry manufacturer-related certifications is preferred.
  • Current, valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel domestically.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam or similar construction design and review software.
  • Proficiency in the use of Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Teams, and standard Microsoft 365 suite of software.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated team-building skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
