Jr. Design Engineer


Position Summary

The Jr. Design Engineer supports the mechanical design of new and existing products under the guidance of the Principal Engineer and reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager. This role requires collaboration across departments-including engineering, production, sales, quality, and program management-in a concurrent engineering environment to develop practical and cost-effective design solutions.

The position also involves hands-on work in the test laboratory, including design validation, prototype development, and product preparation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct mechanical design activities for both new product development and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Create 3D models, 2D drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and associated technical documentation.
  • Perform tolerance stack-ups, fits, and clearances analysis.
  • Conduct analytical or experimental testing to verify design integrity.
  • Collaborate with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team to optimize designs for performance, manufacturability, cost, and inspectability.
  • Investigate production issues and contribute to resolution efforts.
  • Support test and assembly procedure development and documentation for design validation and manufacturing.
  • Assist in the fabrication of prototypes, fixtures, and tooling.

Candidate Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in CAD detail and assembly design (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Familiarity with engineering simulation tools (e.g., MathCAD, Simulink).
  • Solid understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of linear stress analysis (FEA experience is a plus).
  • Expertise in structural mechanics: fastening methods, torque design, material selection, bearing design.
  • Strong foundation in mechanical design fundamentals: strength of materials, processing, finishes.
  • Technical writing skills, including proposals, test procedures, and failure analysis reports.
  • Familiarity with electronics and EMI is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $75,000 - $95,000
