The Laboratory Design Architect prepares 2D/3D designs and construction plans for complex automated and standalone laboratory solutions. The Laboratory Design Specialist supports the development of the laboratory design throughout multiple phases to ensure the successful implementation of the proposed solution. The Lab Design Specialist creates intermediate 3D visualization and digital images to promote the sales opportunity and support marketing needs.
Business Operation team and works closely with colleagues, as well as internal and external stakeholders (global business affiliates, field engineers, architects, customers, and others) to address the customers' unique design requirements.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Transforms Matterport digital twin (BIM files or Point clouds) into formats used throughout the nonautomation and complex automation design lifecycle
Produces detailed concept designs, phasing plans, and construction drawings using 2D/3D CAD software for non-automation and automated solutions
Develops 3D models, renderings, and advanced visualizations of laboratory designs using Revit, Sketchup, SimLab, Enscape, and/or Unreal Engine
Collaborate on designs with internal and external customers for modifications and final approval
Documents and maintains change requests for concept designs, phasing plans and construction drawings for non-automation and complex automated solutions
Provides accurate technical specifications and install dimensions to engineers, architects, and facilities team
Maintains advanced working knowledge of building codes, regulations, and standards
Reports progress and status of assignments on a timely basis
Manages multiple complex projects and tasks to meet the turnaround time demands of the assignment
Takes initiative, mentors and works closely with lab design associates and associate consultants on project tasks
Works closely with team to provide backup support tasks on projects with tight schedules
Performs other advanced drafting and design assignments, special projects and support functions, as needed
Maintains knowledge of the sales and implementation processes, team roles and responsibilities and how the lab design activities and outputs impact internal and external customer experiences
Employs all company standards and follows established procedures to deliver quality results in the performance of assigned tasks

Preferred Qualifications
4+ years recent experience with Revit, BIM and/or other CAD-related software
Completion of a bachelor's degree in architecture, Interior Design or comparable Advanced proficiency with 3D design and rendering software (Visio, SketchUp, SimLab, AutoCAD, Revit, Enscape, Unreal Engine)
Ability to design and read mechanical and complex architectural drawings
Advanced proficiency in designing products using 3D parametric CAD
In depth understanding of CAD file management and functionality
In depth understanding of drafting conventions and best practices
General understanding of GD&T
General knowledge of Virtual and Augmented Reality Solutions
General understanding of Business Information Modeling (BIM) and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
Advanced understanding and innovative application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field
General knowledge of other related disciplines and company objectives
Willing and able to travel 10% of the time

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
