ROLE SUMMARY: Wetherby Kensington is a two-form, non-selective, pre-preparatory school for boys from Reception to Year 3, sharing the same curriculum, values, and ethos as Wetherby School, and part of the Wetherby Group. Boys at Wetherby Kensington receive high-quality academic education and pastoral care.
The school seeks an inspiring, strategic Deputy Head with a strong understanding of pastoral care in a pre-prep environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of fostering the well-being and development of boys in a high-achieving setting.
This role suits an ambitious individual with a calm, intelligent approach to young people and staff. It involves significant responsibility, requiring a positive influence and a strategic focus on student well-being. The Deputy Head (Pastoral and Operations) will be integral to the school's daily life and strategic growth.
We seek a role model who will nurture excellence, lead a world-class pastoral program, and innovate based on research and best practice. The candidate will develop boys' character, well-being, safeguarding, and staff care.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with proven leadership and management skills in education, capable of working closely with the Headmistress, SLT, and stakeholders to shape the school's vision and operations.
Start date: September 2025 or January 2026.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Responsibility for the pastoral care of boys, working with the Head and SLT
- First point of contact for parents, teachers, and boys regarding pastoral matters
- Lead and oversee safeguarding, including Prevent and Online Safety
- Develop and support Pupil Voice initiatives to empower students
- Promote community links and student participation in local and wider events
- Manage the school council, chair meetings, and implement proposals
- Develop and implement the behaviour policy
- Maintain accurate behaviour logs and report to the Head and Governors termly
- Lead health and safety meetings, ensure compliance, and follow up on actions
- This role involves at least 60% teaching responsibilities
- Be part of the SLT
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: - Qualified teacher status with leadership experience
- Strong understanding of school operations, compliance, and pastoral care
- Experience managing operational and compliance processes in a busy school
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Effective communication with pupils, parents, and staff
- Commitment to high standards across school life
- A team player with humor and emotional awareness
