The Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE) is a professional membership association that
serves approximately 3,600 public school and district leaders across the state. CASE is seeking a Deputy Executive Director who will play a key role on the organization's leadership team and will help
implement CASE's mission, vision, and strategic goals. This full-time, salaried position reports to the
Executive Director.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Deputy Executive Director serves as a key strategic partner to the Executive Director and takes a
leadership role in ensuring operational excellence across all CASE programs, policy initiatives, and
member services. This individual will assist in shaping policy and advocacy strategies, lead
communications and marketing efforts, and serve as the organization representative before a variety of audiences in the Executive Director's absence. The Deputy Executive Director must maintain a system
concern for CASE and provide input and direction in strategic planning, budgeting, membership,
communications, and advocacy.
CASE LEADERSHIP:
- In partnership with Executive Director:
- Engage in strategic planning and vision setting for CASE organization and provide operational and staff oversight.
- Direct and manage CASE advocacy efforts at the Legislature, state agencies including CDE and the State Board of Education, and in other policy settings.
- Support activities of all seven CASE departments, including the business of boards of directors, professional learning events, and networking opportunities.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity in education and inclusive leadership.
- Directly manage CASE communications staff of three.
- Represent and speak for CASE before a variety of audiences, including school districts/BOCES,
superintendent groups; statewide education associations (e.g., CASB, CEA, Colorado Rural Alliance), and school districts.
- Develop and manage positive relationships with public, private, and nonprofit partner organizations to help advance CASE's goals and build association profile.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Colorado Department of Education, the Colorado Association of School Boards, the Colorado Education Association, the Colorado Rural Alliance, and other statewide education organizations and non-profit associations.
- Serve as liaison for two CASE departments, including working with board members on department goals and activities, and providing support at all department board meetings.
- Lead efforts to grow and engage CASE's membership through effective communications, relationship-building, and strategic marketing initiatives.
- Oversee association activities and operations in the absence of the Executive Director.
- Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
ADVOCACY AND COMMUNICATIONS:
- Design and implement communication and marketing plans geared toward achieving goals of CASE, including advancement of policy agenda and strategic partnerships with other organizations.
- Oversee and manage all CASE communications and marketing strategies, including regular email campaigns, press releases, social media engagement, and website content. This includes leading efforts to strengthen CASE's brand, increase member engagement, and build awareness of CASE's programs and policy priorities.
- Analyze and communicate impacts of legislation and potential policy changes in public education to CASE members and other stakeholders.
- In conjunction with CASE Lobbyist, lead CASE advocacy work with CDE and the Colorado State
- Board of Education, including analyzing impact of new or revised rules informed by feedback from CASE members.
- Write clear and effective advocacy communications that inform and engage CASE members on legislation, state funding, and other key issues.
- Collaborate with CASE members to obtain feedback on legislation to determine association position and advocacy strategy.
- Draft testimony and provide messaging support for CASE members appearing before legislative committees.
- With Executive Director, direct CASE lobbyists on messaging to lawmakers and other state level decision makers.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with people and build relationships.

- Strong attention to detail and precision in work.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Background experience and familiarity with CASE.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Google Suite.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Must possess a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Educational Leadership or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years as a school or district administrator, and/or in organizations with a primary focus related to public education in Colorado.
- Demonstrated experience in communications.
- Knowledge of public education systems and policy in Colorado.
- Valid Colorado driver's license.
- Ability to travel to CASE events, including multi-day events.
SALARY/BENEFITS INFORMATION:
- Full-time, FLSA-exempt position.
- Salary Range: $135,000 - $155,000. Placement is based on education and relevant work
- experience.
- Health benefits and Social Security and PERA employer.
- 85% remote work, with an average of one to four days per month at the CASE office in Denver, Colorado. Must attend in-person meetings and events as required.
