Position Overview

The New York City Department of Transportation is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as a Deputy Director for Freight Corridor Initiatives and Operations within the Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM). We are looking for an ambitious, highly organized, and motivated candidate who is passionate about transforming the future of freight transportation in one of the world's most dynamic cities.

The Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM) is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods throughout the city. TPM's Freight Mobility Unit is dedicated to advancing transformative infrastructure projects, programs, and policies to improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of goods movement while preserving the city's livability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Manage and mentor supporting staff and consultant teams.
2. Work with internal and external stakeholders, including business partners, community members, and elected officials.
3. Coordinate activities across multiple projects, focusing on program strategy, delegation, and implementation.
4. Contribute to other cross-functional mobility initiatives across the department.
5. Promote a data-informed approach to transportation planning, targeting, communicating, and evaluating projects and policies.

Position Details

Title: City Planner - 22122

Minimum Qualifications

1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of Full time experience in city planning; or
2. Equivalent combination of education and experience, including graduate education in relevant fields, with specific credit substitutions.

Special Qualification Requirements

1. Assignment Level III: One additional year of professional experience beyond the minimum.
2. Assignment Level IV: Two additional years of professional experience beyond the minimum.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of transportation policy, planning, operations, management, and technology.
• Understanding of transportation infrastructure and strategic thinking.
• Experience analyzing transportation performance issues.
• Budget management, data analysis, report writing skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office, ArcGIS, Adobe Suite.
• Valid Driver's License is a plus.
