DescriptionIsle of Wight County Circuit Court Clerk's Office is recruiting for the position of Deputy Clerk II. Duties include performing secretarial and clerical duties to provide assistance to the Circuit Court Clerk's Office and the general public. The work involves: issuing various licenses, subpoenas, court orders, other documents, preparing case files, assisting in court cases, and composing and typing a variety of routine documents.
Examples of Duties- Receives, screens, and responds to a variety of inquiries by telephone and in person and provides information or assistance and/or refers inquires to the appropriate personnel.
- Greets customers at the front counter and answers the phone.
- Opens mail daily and distributes.
- Enters/Opens, updates, and closes out criminal and civil cases in CCMS/CIS6.
- Indexes, images, and inputs pleadings and orders.
- Issues show causes, subpoenas, and capias in criminal and civil cases.
- Assesses criminal fines and cost.
- Receipts criminal court cost payments.
- Prepares cases for court dockets.
- Attends Court, prepares court orders and scans, indexes and distributes said court orders.
- Records and releases judgments.
- Processes passport applications.
- Administers oaths of office for Notary Publics, county officials, and elected officials.
- Assists public in research of public records in Record Room, such as deeds, plats, etc.
- Scans and indexes all miscellaneous orders such as judge designation orders, oaths, orders of appointment, etc.
- Issues marriage licenses and indexes when returned.
- Issues concealed handgun permits.
- Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
- Performs other assigned duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires the use of fingers, grasping, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.
Required Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- One (1) years of related work experience;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: - All training, classes, and regional meetings offered by the Supreme Court of Virginia.
