Columbia Academy Elementary and Middle School is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and student-centered
Dean of Students to join our leadership team. This individual will play a vital role in shaping a safe, inclusive, and supportive school culture. The Dean of Students will focus on student behavior and discipline, lead social-emotional learning initiatives, and collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators to promote the academic and personal success of every student.
In partnership with the Head of School, the Dean of Students is responsible for implementing school-wide behavior systems, supporting attendance and engagement efforts, and serving as a key liaison for student support services and family communication.
Key Responsibilities: - Support student discipline and behavior through positive reinforcement strategies
- Lead efforts in social-emotional learning and promote a growth mindset culture
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure consistency in classroom management
- Build strong relationships with families and serve as a trusted point of contact
- Assist in the design and implementation of school-wide attendance initiatives
- Partner with student support teams to address individual needs
- Contribute to the development of a positive school climate and inclusive environment
Core Competencies: - Deep understanding of pedagogy and best practices in elementary and middle school education
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to mentor staff effectively
- Excellent communication skills-both written and verbal
- High level of professionalism and emotional intelligence, especially in high-pressure situations
- Collaborative, solutions-oriented, and proactive approach to problem-solving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new technologies
- Familiarity with educational laws and regulations relevant to private schools
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in education or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience, preferably with elementary and/or middle school students
- Minimum of 2 years in an administrative or leadership role (private school experience preferred)
- Experience in communicating with staff, students, and families, addressing issues and concerns
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing classroom or school-wide behavior management strategies
