Job Profile Summary The Dean, Nurse Administrator is responsible for the leadership, management, and administration of the Nursing (ADN-RN) program, LPN to RN and RN to BSN transition programs aligned to Florida State Statute and State Board Rule, Broward College policies and procedures, and the standards of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The Nurse Administrator has authority and responsibility for the development and administration of the Associate- and Bachelor-level Nursing programs, including planning, scheduling, evaluation, budgeting, maintenance of accreditation, promoting instructional quality, program and course learning outcomes, and student success. Additionally, the Nurse Administrator coordinates and conducts outreach efforts, student clubs and co-curricular activities, the career-exploration of prospective students; and the recruitment and onboarding of eligible students.
Minimum Education: - A Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education required; Doctorate degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
Minimum Experience/Training: - 7-10 years of progressive management and administrative experience.
- Teaching and/or related work experience in the Nursing field.
Minimum Certification/Licenses: - Incumbent must possess an active and unencumbered license as a registered nurse in the state of Florida
Essential Functions: Serves as Nursing Administrator for the Nursing Department with regards to state, professional organizations, accrediting bodies, the community, and external constituents.
Oversees the nursing programs and their function under the auspices of Nursing and the Health Sciences Pathway.
Collaborates with Nursing program stakeholders to develop a mission and philosophy for the unit that is congruent with the
core values, mission and goals of Broward College.
Ensures the representation of the nursing faculty and students in governance activities.
Develops and implements program, faculty, staff and student policies that are consistent with those of the college; differences are justified by the purpose and outcomes of the nursing program.
Ensures that policies/procedures are publicly available, non-discriminatory, and consistently applied.
Prepares and administers the program budget with input from stakeholders in an efficient manner to maximize the use of fiscal, physical and learning resources.
Guides and directs the advisory committees for the Nursing programs.
Contributes to the design of search committee membership and essential qualities of a successful applicant, and fully participates in the selection and on-boarding of new employees, as applicable to the areas of responsibility.
Ensures that end-of-program student learning outcomes are used to organize the curriculum, guide the delivery of instruction, and direct learning activities.
Ensures that the assessment of end-of-program student learning outcomes and program outcomes are shared with communities of interest, and the communities of interest have input into program processes and decision-making.
Ensures that the curriculum and instructional processes reflect educational theory, inter- and intra-professional collaboration, research, cultural, ethnic and socially diverse perspectives and current standards of practice.
Ensures that learning activities, instructional materials, and evaluation methods are appropriate for all delivery formats and consistent with end-of-program student learning outcomes.
Ensures that student clinical experiences and practice learning environments are evidence-based, reflect contemporary practice and nationally established patient health and safety goals, and support the achievement of the end-of-program student learning outcomes.
Reviews and verifies that written agreements with clinical practice agencies, other health-related organizations, and educational institutions are current, specify expectations for all parties, are compliant with applicable laws and policies, have Broward College legal counsel approval, and ensures the protection of students.
Coordinates the completion of background and drug screening requirements with college staff and affiliated agency staff in adherence with applicable requirements in a timely manner.
Engages full-time and part-time faculty in ongoing development of teaching and learning practices, assessment and feedback processes, and alternate modalities such as online education and simulation.
In coordination with Associate Dean(s), as applicable, evaluates faculty (full- and part-time) and staff and provides coaching, mentoring, and feedback in accordance with college policy/procedures.
Promotes teaching excellence and professional development, and service to the college and community, fostering best practices in nursing education, current nursing accrediting body standards and college policies for all administrators, faculty and staff.
Implements a systematic plan of evaluation of course level and program level outcomes and utilizes assessment of the outcomes to drive decision-making for the improvement of outcomes and efficient utilization of resources.
Works closely with the Associate Deans of Nursing, the faculty/staff assigned to the program, health science recruiters, health science counselor, and advisors at multi-campus locations to promote excellence and leadership and to ensure effective attainment of hospital scholarship program education initiatives by serving as chair or member of committees, task forces and advisory committees, and by supervising associate dean(s), faculty, and staff within the degree program.

- Daily - 20%:
Coordinates with the division of Student Services and the division of Workforce Education & Economic Development (WE&ED) to ensure the appropriate career-exploration and selection, recruitment, admission, onboarding, retention, and advising of students.
Collaborates with the Accessibility Services division to ensure opportunity and access to students consistent with hospital partner regulations and college policies.
Partners with the College Registrar to maintain student educational records in compliance with college, state, and federal guidelines.
Collaborates with the division of Financial Aid and Student Accounts to maintain compliance with Higher Education Reauthorization Act Title IV eligibility and certification requirements, including default rates and the results of financial or compliance audits.
Works with the College Ombudsperson to ensure that student complaints and grievances receive due process and include evidence of resolution.
Collaborates with the AVP, Student Life and the campus Student Life Directors to plan and deliver co-curricular opportunities for student engagement.
Collaborates with the division of Instructional Technology to ensure that students have access to technology and that technological support is available to students.
Works with the Dean, Nursing & SIM Center to articulate students in the BSN program and utilize the SIM Center effectively to extend the learning opportunities for students to attain course and program level outcomes.
Works with the Director of the Grants department to seek, develop and manage grants that promote the strategic objectives and capital improvement needs of the department and college.
Develops strong partnerships with appropriate community stakeholders in support of program and college development by: - collaborating with the college foundation in fund-raising activities on behalf of nursing, allied health and health sciences simulation center.
- working with educational institutions and health care agencies to provide for articulation agreements, student clinical placement, faculty and program support.
- representing BC in interactions with hospitals, governmental and regulatory agencies, officials who interface with health care, research, education, and other institutions.
Serves the college through committee involvement, curriculum development, and development of innovative instruction methods and modalities.
Displays a strong commitment to Associate Degree Nursing Education that is seamlessly articulated into the Baccalaureate degree.
Supports college extracurricular functions.
Maintains currency in the field through professional development and scholarly activities.
Performs related duties required for the administration and management of the academic program(s) as required or assigned by the College Provost, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, and/or College President (includes functions which may include internal and/or external committees, efficient scheduling, accreditation etc.; or other functions determined necessary for successful management of the program).
