Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) seeks an inspiring and innovative leader to serve as Dean of the Whitlowe R. Green College of Education (WRGCOE).

Located in Prairie View, Texas - about 50 miles from downtown Houston - the 1,440-acre campus lives up to its unofficial motto, "Prairie View Produces Productive People." The University has the honor of counting among its graduates a Brigadier General, two Lieutenant Generals, a Vice Admiral, the first Black female engineer to be registered by the state of Texas, the founder of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), an Olympic Gold Medalist , numerous academicians, professional athletes, entertainers, and artists who have made tremendous impacts on their communities and the world.

PVAMU is the second-oldest public institution of higher learning in Texas. Empowered by a shared sense of history and experience, as well as PVAMU's relentless commitment to providing the highest quality of education, research, and service, its graduates make their mark as scholars and leaders in their fields. Established in 1876 as a land-grant institution, the University enrolls over 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The total student population hails from 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 89 countries. The University has nine colleges and schools, most of which are accredited by professional bodies (ABET, AACSB International, and others), and numerous research centers housed on the main campus. The University offers 36 bachelor's degree programs, 31 master's degree programs, and six doctoral programs.

WRGCOE has a distinguished legacy of producing some of the nation's most accomplished educators, counselors, and administrators. As a key component of PVAMU, a proud member of The Texas A&M University System, the College is committed to providing high-quality, affordable education that prepares graduates to make an impact in a range of educational settings. Rooted in PVAMU's land-grant mission of teaching, research, and service, WRGCOE focuses on empowering students with the knowledge, skills, and leadership qualities necessary to excel in public and private educational institutions. The College embraces innovation and collaboration to shape the next generation of education professionals who will make a profound difference in their communities and beyond. The College comprises two departments: Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Leadership & Counseling and offers undergraduate, graduate, and certification programs.

Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of WRGCOE serves as the chief academic and operating officer of the College and is responsible for creating and sustaining an environment in which academic excellence is pursued by faculty, students, administrators, and staff. The Dean oversees a College with a budget of $3.75 million and over 450 students, including more than 200 undergraduate students, 168 master's students, and 74 doctoral students. WRGCOE has approximately 40 faculty and 11 staff, including 21 tenured or tenure-track faculty. The College has averaged over $832,000 in research and grant funding over the last three years.

The next Dean of WRGCOE will have the opportunity to lead a storied College within a University that is in the midst of exciting change. The next Dean will be expected to support faculty by providing strategic leadership and infrastructure; expand and innovate academic programs; manage and grow financial resources; champion student success; and enhance teacher certification and K-12 partnerships.

Candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in academic administration at the level of department chair or above, an earned doctorate in Education or a closely related field, and a distinguished record of academic leadership and accomplishment commensurate with appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the College's academic departments. While not a requirement for the role, candidates who have experience as a faculty member or an administrator at a research-intensive university are of interest to PVAMU.
