Job Summary
The Dean provides academic and fiscal leadership for assigned disciplines at the Valle Verde Campus and the Administrative Service Center. This includes program planning selection, evaluation, and supervision of faculty and staff. Development and management of assigned programs in conjunction with the other academic Deans. Development and management of approved budget recommendations. Monitoring of equipment and inventories for multiple programs and all activities required to meet the strategic goals of the assigned area. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
The Dean is responsible for leadership within the Division and will direct, develop, implement, manage, and evaluate assigned activities.
Develop, recommend, and evaluate short and long-range strategic academic plans and related policies/procedures. Monitor programs and manage campus enrollments in coordination with other Deans. Build and implement approved programs and recommend modifications as required.
Develop budget recommendations and manage approved budgets. Monitor equipment and inventories for multiple programs.
Serve as liaison to assigned high schools for dual credit and early college high schools.
Develop class schedules. Assign facilities (dedicated classrooms and laboratories) for maximum effectiveness of resources. Oversee the adoption and ordering of textbooks.
Perform employment-related activities. Provide personnel management direction and supervision to assigned faculty and staff including assignments, evaluation, orientation, coaching, and professional development.
Participate as a voting member or liaison of standing committees for the District and serve as a member of the Campus Improvement Team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Master's degree with nine (9) years of experience in college teaching, instructional administration, program planning and development, planning and budgeting in an academic environment, or similarly related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Effective conflict resolution, leadership, and teambuilding skills. Demonstrated success in leading a team in collaborative goal setting, strategic planning, and objective achievement. Demonstrated success or ability to work with a broad range of college constituencies and community groups, in support of the strategic initiatives and goals.
3. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to deal effectively and fairly with a variety of individuals in a courteous manner.
4. Effective oral and written communication skills. Experience making presentations to large groups.
5. Working knowledge of program and curriculum development, implementation of innovative teaching methods, and evaluation methodologies.
6. Effective management and supervisory skills. Ability to provide vision, planning, leadership, and management to the staff.
7. Experience with personal computers and a variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
8. Demonstrated success in working with students and staff in dealing with disciplinary issues and conflict management.
9. Documented experience developing and executing institutional budgets. Demonstrated success in managing grant activities and budgets.
10. Effective decision-making, time management, goal setting, and planning ability.
