Summary: The Database Engineer will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, systems administrators, and software developers to design and deliver robust, scalable, and secure database solutions. This role requires hands-on responsibility for maintaining and enhancing complex database management systems while ensuring optimal performance, data integrity, and system recoverability. The engineer will also lead efforts related to database installations and upgrades, performance monitoring, and modernization initiatives, and will be instrumental in developing and enforcing policies, procedures, and best practices to support the overall data architecture. Functions:
• Provides expert-level operational support, maintenance, and upgrades for complex database management systems across diverse platforms and operating systems.
• Leads and executes the transition of legacy database platforms to modern solutions such as Elasticsearch, ensuring data integrity, minimal downtime, and improved search and analytics capabilities.
• Designs and sustains efficient, reliable, and high-performing physical database architectures to ensure seamless data operations.
• Leads the coordination, planning, and execution of advanced database software installations and upgrades, ensuring alignment with system requirements and compatibility standards.
• Plans and manages database lifecycle activities, including installations and upgrades, in strict adherence to organizational IT policies and best practices.
• Proactively monitors and fine-tunes multiple database environments to maintain peak performance, stability, and availability.
• Safeguards data integrity by designing, evaluating, and deploying scalable and resilient database solutions tailored to varying levels of complexity.
• Ensures robust data recoverability through the development and management of comprehensive backup strategies and archival procedures.
• Champions the modernization of legacy database infrastructures through the planning and deployment of cutting-edge technologies and methods.
• Authors, maintains, and enforces standardized operating procedures, technical policies, and scheduled maintenance protocols.
• Performs comprehensive database audits to validate compliance with established policies, security standards, and configuration baselines. Qualifications and Skills include:
• Advanced database management and administration across multiple operating systems.
• Installation, configuration, and upgrading of database software and related operating systems.
• Database tuning and monitoring to ensure optimum system performance.
• Data integrity management using complex evaluation and implementation techniques.
• Database backup, recovery, and archive operations to ensure recoverability.
• Auditing databases to ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards.
• Troubleshooting complex database issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Working closely with system administrators, database engineers, and software developers to design and implement database solutions.
• Scheduling and managing database installations, upgrades, and routine maintenance.
• Leading modernization initiatives and ensuring smooth transitions to updated systems. Education/Experience include:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; or the equivalent combination of education; technical training; or work/military experience.
• 6+ total years of related experience.
• Must be DoD 8570/DoD 8140 IAT Level II qualified Working Conditions: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
