The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the organizations databases. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems, ensuring data availability and consistency, and optimizing database performance to meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and upgrade database software and tools (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
Monitor database performance and implement changes to improve speed and efficiency.
Ensure data integrity, backups, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
Perform regular maintenance, including tuning, indexing, and security patching.
Develop and enforce database standards, policies, and procedures.
Manage database access and permissions for users and applications.
Support developers with optimized queries, stored procedures, and database design best practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly.
Monitor capacity and plan for future growth and scalability.
Ensure compliance with data governance and security regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience as a DBA or in a similar role.
Proficiency with major database platforms (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, and high availability solutions.
Familiarity with database scripting languages (e.g., T-SQL, PL/SQL).
Knowledge of data privacy and protection practices (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Preferred Skills & Traits:
Experience with cloud databases (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional, or similar.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
