Summary The Database Administrator is responsible for providing database development and support of enterprise information systems. Helps ensure control, integrity and accessibility of data. Responsible for assisting in the establishment of database system flows, database design, and supporting enterprise database standards. Performs integration testing, schedules and upgrades to databases and monitors utilization for capacity planning. Establishes requirements, methods and procedures for database backup and recovery and builds scripts automating the daily operations of database management. Responsible for tracking and reporting database performance while performing database tuning activities that ensure optimization. Responsible for determining and recommending solutions and the procurement of equipment consistent with the system's needs. Assists in project management as assigned, provide excellent service and support on technology needs to user base and management, and work closely with technology team and departments under the general supervision. This position may work after normal business hours including on-call.
Essential Duties- Service Level Agreements: Is aware of service level agreement levels. Takes steps to meet or exceed requirements.
- Database Availability: Provides high availability so that authorized users can access and change data as needed to support the business. Access is 24 x 7 or 7 days a week.
- Information Flows: Assists in the establishment of database system flows.
- Database Design: Analyzes, tests and implements physical database design for the storage aspects of the database objects (tables, views, procedures, etc.)
- Testing: Creates test files and performs system tests. Performs integration testing.
- Database Standards: Supports enterprise database standards such as file system layout and database installation and creation, etc. Also responsible for the support of database security standards.
- Metadata Models: Develops and maintains enterprise data documentation and metadata models. - Information Access: Provides, evaluates and develops data access tools and techniques to enable information access by business users.
- Upgrades: Schedules and performs upgrades of databases, adding new structures and elements.
- Capacity Planning: Monitors utilization for capacity planning. Forecasts utilization patterns and recommends modifications or upgrades.
- Security: Analyzes audit trails to detect systematic security violations.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: Performs database backup and disaster recovery procedures and contingency plans. Establishes requirements, methods and procedures.
- Database Metrics: Develops, tracks and reports database performance metrics.
- Database Tuning: Monitors, analyzes database performance and calibrates DBMS parameters so that the database is tuned for optimal performance.
- Operating System: Implements batch shell scripts in a basic language. Facilitates the design of DB related Storage Area Networks (SANs) with Storage Administration.
- DBMS Software: Schedules and implements enterprise DBMS software installs. Assists in establishing the methods and procedures of database installations.
- Scripting Automation: Builds scripts automating the daily operations of database management.
- Software and Hardware Upgrades: Evaluates future technologies and makes recommendations for software and hardware upgrades.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

- Associate's Degree in computer science or related field plus 5 years of experience may be substituted for the required education and minimum experience.
- Obtain ITIL Foundation Certification within 1 year of employment.
Able to pass FBI criminal background fingerprint check, and have the ability to comply with state and federal requirements for criminal justice information security standards.Supplemental InformationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver's License with safe driving record.
