Job Description: Data Warehouse Architect - Child Welfare Data Warehouse
Position Overview:
The Department recognized by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), is responsible for administering federal Child Welfare programs under Titles IV-B and IV-E of the Social Security Act. DHHS's mission is to ensure that children and youth served by public systems are safe, have an improved quality of life, and enjoy permanent and stable family lives.
This position supports the Child Welfare Data Warehouse team in developing critical reports related to federal reporting, ad-hoc queries, ETL processes, and Business Objects reports for applications such as NYTD, AFCARS, and NCANDS. The role also involves supporting various projects that require ETL solutions to ensure the department and its users have the data they need to be more efficient and productive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with State and contract staff, as well as operational SACWIS/CCWIS system developers, to ensure that the operational system database meets the data needs of the Child Welfare Data Warehouse.
- Collaborate with State and contract teams to design and load the Child Welfare Data Warehouse database model, ensuring it supports DHHS reporting and analytic requirements.
- Participate in ongoing SACWIS/CCWIS project phases, working with teams to update and enhance the data warehouse to reflect system changes and evolving requirements.
- Ensure stakeholders are fully informed about the impact and decisions related to the Data Warehouse models and their ability to support and extend them by the end of the contract.
- Application Development & Integration:
- Develop business intelligence applications and integrate data warehouse resources into DHHS applications.
- Work closely with DBAs and other data management staff, providing database expertise for application developers.
- Create data warehouse-based applications, including reporting, dashboards, and other data analysis visualizations.
- Oversee ETL processes to efficiently move data from various operational systems into a cleansed and consolidated data warehouse.
- Data Query and Reporting:
- Collaborate with the Federal reporting team and end user query developers to design, optimize, and improve database queries.
- Assist with the definition and development of new queries for agency requestors, ensuring data needs are met.
- Provide training and technical support to both DTMB developers and end user query developers to enhance their ability to create and implement reporting solutions using the data warehouse.
- Training and User Support:
- Develop and present training sessions for DTMB developers to help them understand how to effectively use Teradata and BI development tools to create and implement reporting solutions.
- Offer one-on-one support for developers and end users, assisting them in meeting federal data reporting requirements and improving their productivity.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong experience with ETL tools and processes.
- Experience in working with Teradata (Cloud version 17.20 preferred).
- Familiarity with Business Objects XI 4.2 SP4 or similar BI tools.
- Proficiency in SQL for designing and optimizing database queries.
- Knowledge of data warehouse design and data modeling techniques.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including State and contract staff, DBAs, and application developers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience in training and mentoring developers and end users.

- Analytical mindset with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Ability to address challenges related to data warehouse functionality and reporting needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working within a governmental or public sector setting, particularly in Child Welfare or similar social services.
- Familiarity with the SACWIS/CCWIS systems and their integration into data warehousing solutions.
- Experience with the State of Michigan's SOM Enterprise Data Warehouse environment or similar large-scale data management platforms.
