Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Junior Data Scientist. The Junior Data Scientist assists in interpreting results from a variety of analytic techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to machine learning algorithms. This position works directly with project, technical, and business leaders to identify analytical requirements. The Jr Scientist with work with the team to frame and seek answers to mission problems.

The Data Scientist will work on design and maintenance for end-to-end machine learning pipelines including data ingestion, transformation, continuous model updating, streaming analytics, and API delivered model prediction. The Jr Data Scientist will visualize analytical results of analytical outputs and implement analytics into software applications.

Essential Functions:
    Involved in the analysis of unstructured and semi-structured data, using AI/ML techniques - deep learning, NLP, computer vision, large language models (LLMs) on hybrid, multi-cloud infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of traditional statistical methods, including but not limited to, regression models, survival analysis, classification methods clustering, projection, natural language processing, and others using Python and/or R.
  • Has the ability to make discoveries in the world of big data. Requires strong computational skills - engineering, physics, mathematics, coupled with the ability to code design, develop, and deploy applications using advanced unstructured and semi-structured data analysis techniques.
  • Executes sound data science methods from data preparation to modeling, test and evaluation using advanced tools and computational skills to interpret, connect, predict and make discoveries in complex data. Deliver recommendations for business and analytic decisions.

  • Ability to research and learn suggested approaches to complex problems and structure data properly for implementation of these methods

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • 0 years with BS/BA; 4 years no degree
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with technical and non-technical team members
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to work on multiple projects/assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines and goals
  • Understanding mission problem, preparing data for modeling, evaluating and testing AI/ML models to build outputs that address business problems
  • Application of natural language processing, computer vision and LLM. Usage of R, Python packages, LLMs
  • Working knowledge of data retrieval methods, APIs, for ability to self-service data. Experience with software development, either with COTS or an open-source enterprise software development stack.
  • Experience with Cloud-based data analysis tools in Azure, AWS and/or Google.
  • Experience with visual analytic tools like Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
  • Knowledge of responsible AI principles
  • Ability to learn new AI/ML techniques and technologies in a rapidly dynamic field.

Target Salary Range

$51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
