Background
The goal of the Urban Malaria Lab at Loyola University Chicago is to develop methodologies and tools to inform optimal and appropriate urban malaria intervention allocation to maximize impact. We analyze field, trial, and routine health system data; build statistical and machine learning models aimed at improving understanding of disease dynamics, informing effective public health campaigns, and guiding rational development of new public-health interventions. The Data Scientist will leverage advanced data science techniques to analyze complex survey data, develop predictive models, lead writing of publications, and present at conferences and scientific meetings.

Responsibilities

Data Analysis and Modeling
  • Design and implement machine learning models using Python, R, and other statistical tools to analyze large epidemiological datasets and generate predictive insights.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines for efficient data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing of survey data (e.g., Demographic and Health Survey, Malaria Indicator Survey).
  • Create interactive visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality assurance of existing analysis and identify areas for further investigation
  • Perform statistical analysis to identify trends, patterns, and relationships in complex. datasets.

  • Number of citations of research work overtime.
  • Number of articles produced that generalizes information beyond the study areas.
  • Conference presentation and symposia on study findings.
  • Development and implementation of predictive models for disease dynamics.
Objective 4 indicators of achievement:
  • Number of partners trainings conducted.
  • Number of events where technology developed in the course of our work is disseminated.
  • Number of sensitizations on research work carried out in communities.
