Summary

We are seeking a skilled Data Platform Engineer to join our team responsible for designing, building, supporting, and administering our enterprise data platform. This role will leverage software engineering expertise to create a scalable, automated infrastructure that serves data consumers, including data analysts, data scientists, applications, and analytics engineers. A key focus will be on leveraging open-source solutions, researching their applicability, and integrating them into our environment to meet our use case needs, ensuring a robust and efficient data ecosystem.

What You'll Do
  • Design and Build Data Platform Infrastructure: Architect and implement a scalable, reliable data platform using modern software engineering practices, open-source technologies, and 3 party solutions tailored to our environment.
  • Evaluate and Implement Open-Source Solutions: Research, deploy, test, and productionize open-source tools, ensuring they are optimized for scalability, reliability, and seamless integration into our data platform.
  • Automation and Centralized Services: Develop and maintain automated services-such as data ingestion pipelines, monitoring systems, and observability tools.
  • System Monitoring and Observability: Implement and manage observability solutions to monitor platform health, performance, and usage, enabling proactive issue resolution.
  • Platform Support and Administration: Provide ongoing support for the data platform, including troubleshooting, optimization, and capacity planning to ensure seamless operation.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Partner with data consumers and other teams to understand platform needs and align open-source deployments with organizational goals.
  • Security and Governance: Apply best practices for data security, access control, and compliance within the platform infrastructure and open-source tools.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain detailed documentation of platform architecture, open-source tool deployments, and operational processes to support team efficiency and knowledge transfer.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).:
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on building and supporting scalable systems.
  • Demonstrated experience researching, deploying, and managing open-source technologies in a production environment.
  • Hands-on experience with data platforms or distributed systems (e.g., data lakes, data warehouses, or cloud-based data solutions).:
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go for building automated services and integrating open-source tools.
  • Expertise in infrastructure as code for managing platform configurations and deployments.
  • Familiarity with open-source data tools and their application in data platforms.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Databricks) and their integration with open-source technologies.
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools to support open-source deployments.
  • Proficiency with observability tools for monitoring system performance.
