What is the role?

The Senior Data Governance Analyst is responsible for both designing and executing data governance strategies. This hands-on role involves leading complex initiatives across various business functions, with a focus on governance planning, defining standards, designing processes, implementing security measures, and executing key metrics. The role requires a strong background in data governance frameworks, along with expertise in data science and analytics, to ensure that data remains accurate, accessible, and actionable. The Senior Data Governance Analyst will be instrumental in building and designing solutions, as well as executing the necessary work to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.

What will be expected of me?
  • Lead the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide data governance program to improve (and maintain) data quality, consistency, and integrity across the organization.
  • Design and implement Information Governance interactions within the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to ensure that policy, standards, and procedures are designed, developed, and monitored
  • Integrate data governance into systems and across teams to ensure that data-driven insights will inform long-term planning and performance measurement.
  • Translate trends and analyses into strategic recommendations for senior leaders to influence organizational performance, influence timelines and align expectations.
  • Deliver actionable insights from complex data sets to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Build and manage dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools that provide real-time business intelligence and support cross-functional analytics projects.
  • Collaborate across functional teams to define project goals, align on priorities, ensure alignment and policy compliance and implement impactful solutions.
  • Drive a culture of data literacy and champion the use of data in everyday business decisions.
  • Support budgeting and resource planning by providing data-backed insights for department strategies.
  • Support the VP of Strategy and others in Office of Strategy Management in projects, initiatives, events, reporting, and performance tracking, as needed.
  • Develop operational plans for the data governance function.
  • Coach, review and delegate work to lower-level professionals, based on operational plans.

What am I bringing?

Experience/Education:
  • 6+ years in data science, analytics, or machine learning
  • 6+ years' experience with SQL, R, or Python
  • 4+ years' experience working with advanced analytics tools such as DataBricks, Azure Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric
  • 2+ years' experience with reporting and visualization tools (Tableau or PowerBI preferred)
  • Financial services or credit union industry experience is a major plus
  • BS/BA or Advanced degree (preferred) in a relevant field (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science or other Computational Science) (or equivalent years of related IT professional work experience)
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of data governance operating models and toolsets (e.g. Purview or Collibra)
  • Comfortable working with a variety of data architectures (Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, and Data Marts)
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, understandable language for non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong project and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis, machine learning, and visualization platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive data and uphold confidentiality.
  • Strong business acumen & strategic thinking
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Routinely uses significant judgment on moderate to complex business problems.
  • Experience in leading and facilitating the design of business glossaries, semantics, and taxonomies across various industries preferred
  • Accountable for developing and implementing complex processes, standards or operational plans based on department needs
  • Routinely uses significant judgment on complex business problems
  • Expert in data governance with a solid understanding of the overall organization and competitive environment
  • Able to navigate through complex problems
  • Able to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership
  • Recognized as an advisor to functional leadership, negotiating change across direct area of responsibility and others within the function
What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?
  • Hybrid / Office environment: Typically, a dispersed, flexible team environment both on Westerra campus and remote. Must reside in Colorado, with designated in-office days ( 2x/week)
Salary: in addition to the starting annual rate of $85,871 - $109,485, this role is also eligible for Westerra's self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if Westerra hits specific criteria tied to financial goals and this role has a direct impact on the outcome of those results.
