About the position NCARB's Data & Analytics Team seeks a Data Engineer to transform our rich data into actionable business insights that drive strategic decision-making. As part of our collaborative, agile team, you'll provide technical oversight of our data infrastructure while maintaining a healthy work-life balance in our stable non-profit environment.
This role is ideal for a hands-on data professional who enjoys connecting business needs with technical solutions. You'll be responsible for our data lake, data warehousing, and ETL processes, working to continually improve how we collect, organize, and utilize data from various internal and external sources.

Core Responsibilities - Department Specific Technical Expertise: - Serve as the primary technical steward of NCARB's data platforms and products
- Maintain and improve ETL processes with a focus on data integrity, privacy, and security
- Collaborate across departments to understand business needs to design and implement sustainable data solutions that align with our non-profit mission and resources
- Identify data quality concerns, troubleshoot issues, and recommend practical improvements to optimize processes
- Create and maintain clear documentation and training resources
Thought Leadership and Mentorship: - Provide guidance on best practices, emphasizing ethical data usage appropriate for a non-profit organization
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Consult with other teams on data collection, modeling, and analysis approaches
- Support team members' professional development through knowledge sharing

At a minimum, you have: - 3+ years of experience designing and maintaining ETL processes across multiple systems
- Deep understanding of data structures and best practices
- Strong skills in SQL and Python
- Experience with API-based data ingestion
- Ability to gather requirements and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Commitment to process improvement and iterative development
Ideally you also have: - Experience with data visualization tools, particularly Tableau Cloud
- Familiarity with AWS services (S3, Redshift, Glue, etc.)
- Understanding of Agile frameworks
- Success managing complex projects with limited resources
It would be awesome if you also had: - Technical documentation skills
- Experience establishing and monitoring performance metrics
- Background in non-profit or mission-driven organizations
- Relevant industry certifications
