GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Murphy USA is seeking a highly motivated and innovative IT Data Engineering Intern to join our dynamic IT team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced Data Engineers in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, where you will gain hands-on experience with the latest technologies, tools, and frameworks. As an intern, you will contribute to the development, optimization, and enhancement of software solutions that support our business operations. You will have the chance to work with cutting-edge Big Data technologies (eg Databricks) running on top of Microsoft Azure environment. The team uses modern programming languages like Python and SQL. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of our Big Data Platform and internal tools that support Murphy USA's business processes. Work alongside data engineers to contribute to scripting, testing, and troubleshooting data pipelines. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance platform functionality and improve user experience. Participate in data quality testing and debugging to ensure data quality. Support the integration of new features and assist in the automation of workflows and processes. Develop scripts or tools to improve notebook performance and ensure system reliability. Contribute to the documentation of the data platform and assist in maintaining technical documentation for future use. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, bringing fresh ideas and insights to the team. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field. Strong understanding of data driven workstreams and software development principles. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or similar. Familiarity with databases and SQL. Experience with version control systems, preferably Git. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering high-quality code. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn and contribute to meaningful projects. Preferred background in Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Pursuing a degree in business or related area of study at an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
