Job Description:
Job Summary Operating at the intersection of data, systems, and people, Senior Data Analyst is focused on providing data and analysis to support the Office of Research and other key stakeholders. This includes supporting the design, development, and maintenance of analytical tools, visualizations, dashboards, and data solutions. This position services the strategy of elevating research analytics capabilities to connect our business users with critical research data, optimize our visibility to key trends, and satisfy the data reporting needs of the research enterprise.
Duties and Responsibilities - Data Analysis and Visualization - Responsible for delivering data and analytics that provide future insights, projections, and optimization of the university's research data. Advance and refine the Office of Research reporting and analytic capabilities through an approach, which aligns insights from internal and external analytics to provide the Office of Research and unit leaders with actionable, data-driven insights conveyed in dashboards and reports. Partner closely with unit leaders to develop and automate reports that will be used to inform research decisions and to provide comparative data. Ensure impeccable quality and reliability of data and be able to clearly translate complex findings into recommended actions.
- Operational and Regulatory Reporting - Participate in the planning, design, and creation of operational and ad hoc reports of varying complexity per client specification using various reporting, data extraction, and analysis tools. Work with the team to design, analyze, and implement methodologies used to collect and merge data from multiple sources including regulatory and sponsored program data, business data, financial data, and HR data. Manage data preparation and regulatory reporting required by state and federal government. Accommodate the informational needs of the department and university by designing, developing, and implementing new reports/processes or modifying existing report/processes used.
- Data Development, Data Modeling, and Data Tool Management - Participate in new projects and system implementation/updates to ensure required data are captured as needed for future processes, metrics, and reporting, Participate in the process of developing new data sets, data fact tables, and star schema models. Be involved in the data warehouse design process including creating specifications for the extract, transform, and load process in partnership with Purdue BICC.
- Data Quality Review and Data Governance - Develop processes to validate data veracity as data flows between business and data systems. Participate in the process of writing and reviewing data specifications, report documentation. Ensure data definitions are maintained. Provide end-to-end testing of new data models, changes to calculated/derived fields, and software upgrades.
What We're Looking For: - Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related data or computer-related field
- Four or more years of relevant experience with data visualization and/or building analytical dashboards
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to interact with faculty and/or staff in a team environment
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and consistently meet deadlines
- Ability to provide analysis and interpretation of data
- Knowledge of/experience with SQL
- Knowledge of database construct management and retrieval methods
- Ability to create data capture and input specifications
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
What Is Helpful: - Experience with coding, writing basic logic, and/or SQL
- Experience with Cognos and Tableau
- Experience with enterprise data, including research and business data
- Experience with end-to-end technical testing cycles from development to production
