Position Summary
The Data Analyst and Administrator maintains Bishop O'Dowd High School's database systems, managing data, and ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility of information. This key role plays a crucial part in managing student records, admissions data, and other important school-related data. Additionally, the incumbent is proficient in doing the analysis based on the data. They dig into the data and extract the useful information out of the data in a logical way. Using their data analysis skills, they create reports and dashboards to support the school leaders decision making. They compare the data with the previous years to identify trends, patterns, opportunities, and challenges.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop rigorous analytical reports and tools that will successfully mine student and teacher data to support data-driven decision-making and instructional practices.
- Assist in coordinating high-quality data practices across the organization.
- Communicate data analysis findings to key stakeholders both internal and external to Bishop O'Dowd High School.
- Manage, monitor, and maintain the PowerSchool database
- Make requested changes, updates, and modifications to database structure and data
- Ensure database integrity, stability, and system availability
- Maintain database backup and recovery infrastructure
- Maintain and optimize the PowerSchool student information system to meet school needs
- Ensure data accuracy, relevance, and usefulness of database systems by working closely with various O'Dowd constituents
- Administration - understand key administrative roles (deans, Dragon Den store, front office, etc.) and ensure that IS needs are supported (responsible use, cyber-bullying, payment systems, etc.).
- Academics - work with the academic coordinator and registrar to perform necessary exports from PowerSchool; and the associate principal to help create student and teacher schedules each school year
- Academic Support Programs - continue working with the academic support programs team to ensure all data requirements are met (ECP, academic support plans, etc.)
- Admissions - support the database needs of the admissions team to ensure that the inquiry, application, and enrollment requirements are met.
- Business Office - work with the business office, CFO, and Technology Director to explore and review potential HR systems to streamline our human resource management.
- Counseling - assist with SAT, PSAT test coordination, assist with creation of data reports (grade reports, transcripts, etc.)
- Marketing & Communications
- Leveraging technology to identify trends, highlight areas requiring intervention, and support evidence-based decision-making.
- Administer, manage, and maintain the school's G Suite product suite.
- Administer, manage, and maintain the school's LMS: Schoology.
- Ensure that IT and systems transitional projects are successfully managed.
- AP Testing - Provide technology operations and support for AP exams.
- Reports to the Director of Technology, Data, and Innovation
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Math, Computer Science, Statistics, or Economics from an accredited institution
- Master's degree in Math, Computer Science, Statistics, or Economics from an accredited institution is preferred
Experience
- 3-5 years in similar roles in a school or educational setting
Skills
- Experience with PowerSchool
- Knowledge and experience in major relational database languages and applications
- A strong technical foundation in database structure, system configuration, installation and practice
- Experience in data models and reporting packages
- Ability to analyze large datasets
- Ability to write comprehensive reports and create dashboards that support decision making
- An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving
- Attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Knowledge and ability to implement relevant technology for database management, data analyses, and for supporting educational technology
