JOB SUMMARY
The Cytotechnologist is responsible for the preparation and microscopic examination of fluids, cell scrapings and smears.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.
Performs processing of fluids.
Prepares specimens for cytology screening.
Screens specimens as required.
Assists with the screening of EBUS and FNA adequacy procedures.
Maintains the principles of confidentiality. Understands the legal/regulatory requirements related to the release of information. Able to use the information systems pertinent to the job.
Performs and documents actions taken according to department procedure.
Display abilities to utilized knowledge to perform manual techniques for processing specimens.
Chooses proper processing methodology based on specific tests requested.
Prepares smears of fluids as required.
Utilizes proper technique involved in routine Diff Qwik and Papanicalaou's staining.
Understands correct collection requirement sand proper patient preparation.
Ensures 100% accurate patient identification of all patients and laboratory specimens.
Accurately carries out requests for laboratory testing appropriate to job level. Utilizes laboratory computer system, hospital computer system, MyNCH, and other computer systems appropriate to job level.
Understands scope of laboratory services appropriate to job level.
Assists hospital staff by being knowledgeable reference for specimens and test provided by the laboratory.
Understands departmental procedures for reporting patient results and maintaining patient confidentiality.
Is flexible in scheduling to meet department needs.
Actively assists and supports departmental activities to ensure that operational and salary expenses are equal to or less than approved budget.
Understands the principles and concepts of Performance Improvement. Looks for opportunities and solutions for process improvements and seeks to improve job skills.
Reviews and acts on reports as required by position.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree required.
Minimum of 2 years' experience preferred.
Licensed as a Cytotechnologist (CT) in the State of Florida.
Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
