Function: We are looking for a curious and motivated Cybersecurity Intern to join our Information Technology team for a 10-week internship. This role is a great opportunity for CCBC students interested in learning how cybersecurity works in the real world, especially in a financial organization. No advanced knowledge is required; just a willingness to learn, ask questions, and be part of a team that protects our systems and data.
Position Requirements:GENERAL:- Ability to be onsite Monday - Friday
- High interest in learning how cybersecurity helps protect people and organizations
- Good attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable asking questions and working in a team setting
EXPERIENCE:- You've tried using basic cybersecurity tools (even just in a class or online)
- You're familiar with terms like phishing, firewalls, or malware
- You enjoy solving puzzles, playing with technology, or staying up to date on tech news
EDUCATION: - High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Currently a CCBC student studying Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Duties:- Learn about common cybersecurity threats and how organizations stay informed.
- Get familiar with the network layout and how computers, branches, and systems connect.
- Watch and understand how we track and monitor network traffic to spot anything unusual.
- Assist with reviewing security alerts and reports to help find signs of suspicious activity.
- Practice looking up basic information about unknown IP addresses or website links.
- Learn how email filtering works and how we protect against spam and phishing emails.
- Help identify fake or suspicious emails and understand when and how to report them.
- Observe how we manage access to systems and devices on our network.
- Learn about the tools we use to protect computers and detect harmful software.
- Sit in on reviews of our firewall settings to understand how traffic is allowed or blocked.
- Help track known software issues and updates using our security tools.
- Use basic tools to look at network traffic and understand what normal and unusual activity looks like.
- Assist with creating and testing simple phishing simulations to educate staff on email safety.
- Support ongoing team projects and cybersecurity tasks as needed.
- Stay abreast of the latest cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends.
- Apply knowledge of emerging threats to enhance security measures.
- Maintain detailed documentation of security incidents, investigations, and remediation activities.
- Collaborate with IT teams and appropriate management security-related matters.
- Communicate security risks and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Conduct digital forensics and analysis to support incident investigations.
- Adhere to regulations and organizational policies, maintaining awareness and knowledge required to perform duties of the position, including all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Lending, and Information Security
