Cybersecurity Engineer - Subject Matter Expert (SME) Location: On-site San Diego, CA NAVWAR Shape the Future of Secure Defense Technology We're looking for a Cybersecurity Engineer SME who thrives in forward-leaning environments where innovation, mission impact, and continuous learning come together. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to build secure systems from the ground up-enhancing cloud-native pipelines, automating vulnerability mitigation, and working across dynamic enclaves. You'll be part of a collaborative team driving real change in how cybersecurity is integrated within modern DevSecOps environments. What You'll Do Join our Data team to lead the design, automation, and refinement of secure software pipelines. Your focus will be on enhancing security posture across development and production, with opportunities to influence both strategy and implementation. Automate vulnerability scans and integrate security checks into CI/CD pipelines Drive resolution of high and critical vulnerabilities to maintain a clean security slate Maintain POA&Ms for medium-level findings and ensure continuous burndown Build and manage Docker-based container environments with a focus on security Collaborate with cybersecurity, engineering, and DevOps teams to embed best practices Contribute to the design of multi-enclave security pipelines, aligned with evolving frameworks like RAISE+ Improve and scale security automation to accelerate vulnerability remediation What You Bring We're looking for someone with both the technical depth and collaborative mindset to help us push boundaries securely. Required: 10+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity or DevSecOps Proven experience using Tekton for CI/CD pipeline automation Deep understanding of Docker security, container hardening, and secure image builds Strong background in vulnerability management and remediation practices Familiarity with secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles Preferred: Ability to meet DoD 8140 requirements (DoD Cybersecurity Workforce alignment) Experience with Kubernetes, container scanning tools, and infrastructure as code (IaC) Understanding of Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Authority to Operate (ATO) processes Interest or experience in AI/ML-driven security automation and anomaly detection Education & Certifications: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity) Industry-recognized certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CEH, or CISM are a plus Clearance Requirements: U.S. Citizenship required Active Secret clearance required TS eligible; TS-SCI clearance strongly preferred Where You'll Work This is a San Diego-based position supporting NAVWAR operations. You'll work onsite, with occasional visits to our office space and travel for team collaboration or customer engagement.
