PGS Worldwide is actively seeking a Remote Cybersecurity Engineer to support ongoing projects for an Aerospace leader. This is an initial 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity and I will respond immediately to all qualified candidates.

Job Description:

We are seeking a Principal Cybersecurity Engineer to design, prototype, and support enterprise-grade security infrastructure and applications. This position focuses on the full lifecycle of cybersecurity engineering-including architecture, development, implementation, and support of both commercial and open-source security tools. The ideal candidate brings a passion for cybersecurity, a proactive mindset, and the ability to operate independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving threat landscape.

This role is fully remote.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and design scalable enterprise security tools, including upgrades and replacements of existing infrastructure.
  • Prototype and deploy commercial and open-source security solutions across Linux and other shell environments.
  • Develop automation scripts to streamline operations and improve efficiency (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl, YAML).
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including compliance reports (DFARS), installation guides, configuration references, user tutorials, and system requirement specifications.
  • Research and implement emerging security technologies to maintain a cutting-edge defense posture.
  • Provide expert-level support for tools such as SIEMs, firewalls, WAFs, packet brokers, and IDS/IPS systems.
  • Collaborate closely with the 24/7 Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) to respond to incidents and enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Operate with minimal supervision while contributing effectively in a team-oriented engineering environment.
Requirements:
  • 14+ years with High School diploma
  • 10+ years with Associate's degree
  • 8+ years with Bachelor's degree
  • 6+ years with Master's degree
  • US Citizenship
  • Security Engineering experience is required - not solely in vulnerability assessment, compliance, or management roles.
  • Strong experience with enterprise-grade security tools (COTS and open source).
  • Advanced Linux/Unix command-line proficiency.
  • Deep understanding of networking protocols (SSL, TLS, DNS, TCP/IP, ARP, BGP, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, ICMP).
  • Proven scripting expertise in Bash, Perl, Python, or YAML.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity engineering concepts, network architecture, and security infrastructure.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Experience with at least some of the following: Splunk, Gigamon, Cisco Firepower, Imperva WAF, Corelight, RSA NetWitness, IDS/IPS, SIEM, firewalls.
Desired:
  • Hands-on experience with packet brokers (Gigamon), WAFs (Imperva), and next-gen firewalls (Cisco Firepower).
  • Exposure to Corelight, RSA NetWitness, Snort, Zeek, Netsniff-NG, syslog-NG, MySQL.
  • Splunk administration and development (dashboards, alerts, queries).
  • Strong background with Linux operating systems and infrastructure-level scripting.
