Cyber Security Specialist Job Category: Information Technology Time Type: Full time Minimum Clearance Required to Start: TS/SCI Employee Type: Regular Percentage of Travel Required: Up to 10% Type of Travel: Continental US The Opportunity: Join our team as a Cyber Security Specialist at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD, where you will play a vital role in protecting and maintaining the security posture of critical Department of Defense systems. This position offers a fast-paced environment where your expertise in vulnerability management, system hardening, and documentation will directly support national defense initiatives. Responsibilities: Conduct regular vulnerability scans and assessments across multiple systems to identify and remediate security weaknesses.
Perform timely patch management activities to ensure all systems remain compliant with DoD and organizational security requirements.
Apply and validate Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to harden systems and enforce security controls.
Draft, review, and maintain cybersecurity documentation, including assessment and authorization packages, security plans, and program deliverables.
Collaborate closely with Information Systems Security Officers (ISSOs) and IT teams to implement and monitor security measures.
Troubleshoot and resolve security-related issues, escalating complex incidents as necessary.
Ensure continuous compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies and frameworks.
Conduct system and process audits, prepare reports, and communicate findings to management.
Assist with cybersecurity projects and initiatives, supporting the development of secure solutions and operational continuity.
Build and maintain repositories for trend analysis, process improvement, and knowledge sharing.
Monitor project deliverables to ensure accountability and timely completion, providing status updates to stakeholders.
Participate in cross-functional team efforts and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Qualifications: Required: An active DoD TS/SCI security clearance.
Active IAT Level II Certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, GICSP, or equivalent).
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (10 years of relevant experience may be substituted for a degree).
Demonstrated experience with vulnerability scanning tools and patch management processes.
Hands-on experience applying and validating STIGs in a DoD environment.
Strong understanding of Windows and Linux system administration.
Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, frameworks, and compliance standards.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective time management and prioritization abilities.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and build effective working relationships. Desired: Experience drafting and maintaining security documentation and artifacts.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or comparable certification.
Experience working in a DoD or federal environment.
Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
Scripting proficiency in Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
Experience with vulnerability management platforms and security monitoring tools.
Knowledge of containerization and virtualization technologies (e.g., Docker, VMware).
