Marshall Health Network's Department of Information Systems is seeking candidates for a part-time, temporary Cyber Security Intern (paid position).
This cybersecurity internship offers hands-on experience with a range of security tasks typically handled by junior or entry-level security analysts. Responsibilities include working with SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools, log analysis, forensics, malware/virus remediation, security controls monitoring and configuration, investigations, and incident response.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the cybersecurity team with daily activities.
- Gain experience in managing security tools and solutions used across the organization.
- Complete assigned tasks such as analysis, investigation, reporting, and maintaining general cybersecurity hygiene.
- Provide support for investigations and incident response efforts.
- Monitor dashboards and event logs, escalating events to appropriate team members.
- Develop proficiency with security tools, performing troubleshooting and triage when needed.
- Stay updated on security threats and vulnerabilities by reviewing daily cybersecurity resources.
- Monitor and remediate phishing mailbox incidents.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Reports to the MHN Chief Information Security Officer
Education: Working towards completion of undergraduate degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, computer science, or related technical field.
Experience: At least one year of college coursework completed.
Skills in the following:
- Fundamental knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
- General knowledge and hands-on coursework (lab) experience with cybersecurity endpoint, network, vulnerability, forensic and log management tools.
- Basic understanding and knowledge of operating system configuration (Windows, Linux) and networking (DNS, DHCP, routing protocols)
- General computer literacy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
