(MTSI) is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) Cybersecurity Engineer / Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our team in the Colorado Springs, CO area in support of U.S Space Force (USSF). You will serve as the information security professional responsible for conducting information system security engineering and cloud activities that capture and refine information security requirements and ensures security requirements are integrated into system and security architecture designs. This position requires an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligible.

ResponsibilitiesAs the Subject Matter Expert Cybersecurity Engineer / Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) professional with MTSI you will serve as the information security professional responsible for conducting information system security engineering and cloud activities that capture and refine information security requirements and ensures security requirements are integrated into system and security architecture designs.
You will work in multi-level classified environments to include Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) activities in support of System Engineering teams to ensure the incorporation of cyber resiliency objectives, techniques, and design principles into all system engineering and development efforts of several programs in multiple stages of development, throughout the systems development life cycle. This position will be located in the Colorado Springs, CO area.
Your essential job functions will include but will not be limited to:
- Planning, implementing, managing, monitoring, and upgrading security measures for the protection of the organization's data, systems, networks, and cloud environments.
- Responding to all system, network and/or cloud environment security breaches.
- Ensuring that the organization's data and infrastructures are protected by ensuring the appropriate security controls requirements are implemented and operating as required.
- Testing and identifying network, system, and cloud environment vulnerabilities.
- Participating in acquisition meetings (i.e., Program Management Reviews (PMR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), etc.), Concept of Operations (CONOP) working groups, change boards, technical exchange meetings and other similar activities.
- Designing and developing security requirements for Information Systems (IS), Platform Information Technology (PIT), and Information Technology (IT) Services in accordance with the Joint Security Implementation Guide (JSIG).
- Guiding and verifying defense contractors' work against program requirements and goals, including participation in technical discussions, trade studies and working groups, and conducting research on industry best practices for potential implementation.
- Interfacing with Program Managers to explain security requirements, risks, and mitigations relative to their priorities of cost and schedule to ensure an acceptable risk tolerance.
- Enforcing the design and implementation of trusted relationships among external systems and architectures within and outside the authorization boundaries.
- Assessing proposed changes to customer information systems, their operational environment, and mission needs for impacts to cybersecurity and continued compliance with cybersecurity requirements.
- Providing inputs to program office development teams responsible for designing and developing organizational information systems and upgrading legacy systems.
- Employing best practices when implementing security requirements for information systems including software engineering methodologies, system/security engineering principles, secure design, secure architecture, and secure coding techniques.
- Keeping abreast of current and new security technologies, threats, and vulnerabilities
- Recommending industry best practices and recommendations for maintaining cybersecurity resilience when clear cybersecurity guidance is not available.
- Identifying integration issues related to the implementation of new systems within the existing infrastructure and recommending mitigation and/or resolution options as appropriate.
- Assisting in the design of systems and networks that encompass multiple enclaves to include those with differing data protection/classification requirements.
Qualifications - 14+ years of technical experience in information technology, cybersecurity, systems engineering, and cloud solution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in SAP, SCI, or Collateral Information Systems (IS)
- Able to demonstrate understanding of cybersecurity needs at varied stages of the systems development life cycle.
- Firm understanding of the DoD 8500.1-M, DoDM 5205.07, Volume 1, JSIG, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-53, and Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) Number 503.
- A successful candidate should be a self-starter who possesses initiative, excellent communication skills, the ability to lead diverse teams, to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and a proven problem solver.
Qualifications Desired - Demonstrated understanding of cybersecurity needs of systems at varied stages of the systems life development cycle.
- Experience working on DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) implementation.
- Experience working on-site in a government client environment.
- Cloud Security Implementation experience.
- Familiarity and experience with NSA requirements for COMSEC.
- Capable of applying system security engineering expertise to various client programs/processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently as well as follow detailed instructions for completing tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to drive projects to closure, and to assimilate and correlate project information in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirements - Bachelor's or Master's degree in information technology or related technical field.
Certifications Requirements - DoD 8140.03 "Cyberspace Workforce Qualification and Management Program".
Clearance Requirements - Top Secret, SCI eligible.
- SAP eligibility is HIGHLY desired. (Counterintelligence Polygraph may be required).
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
Travel Requirements - Place of work is Colorado Springs, CO area, remote work opportunity is limited.
- May require travel up to 40% of time within the continental United States.
Compensation: The pay range for this position in Colorado is $195,000/year to $220,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract rates, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act.
