At APL, we focus on research and development of advanced solutions to critical issues affecting national security. Our work involves software and hardware reverse engineering, vulnerability research, and the creation of proof-of-concept offensive cyber capabilities targeting embedded systems. We provide tailored facilities designed for vehicles, telecommunications/network infrastructure, and industrial systems, in addition to general reverse engineering labs.

As a Cyber Capability Engineer, you will:
  • Develop exploits and craft mission-driven proof-of-concept capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with government sponsors and operators to ensure that our solutions align with operational requirements.
  • Investigate innovative methods to automate reverse engineering and exploit development.
  • Propose pioneering concepts eligible for internal and external funding.
  • Share your insights through presentations and papers to team members, management, and government stakeholders.
Qualifications:

You are an ideal candidate if you possess:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C and Python.
  • A willingness to embrace new programming languages, libraries, and frameworks.
  • A self-driven approach to transforming high-level requirements and research into actionable tasks.
  • Knowledge of contemporary software engineering practices (agile methods, continuous integration, unit testing, and version control).
  • An eagerness to learn reverse engineering skills and contribute to automation efforts.
  • A readiness to engage with legacy systems and technologies as necessary.
  • An active TS/SCI+poly security clearance and eligibility for access to classified information, which includes U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Experience with containerization technologies.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems development toolchains.
  • Ability to read and write assembly language.
  • Familiarity with software debuggers and static analysis tools.
  • An understanding of various web frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Layer-1 and Layer-2 protocols.

Compensation:

The minimum annual salary for this position is $90,000, while the maximum can go up to $220,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
