Customer Service - Dangerous Goods (DG) Specialist

We have an exciting career opportunity at OOCL in our Customer Service department focusing on the handling of dangerous goods and hazardous cargo. Customer Service - Dangerous Goods Specialists are crucial for ensuring the safe transport of dangerous goods and protecting people, property, and the environment. They have specialized knowledge and skills (we'll train you ) to identify, classify, and manage materials and dangerous goods that can be flammable, toxic, explosive, or corrosive, complying with strict regulations. This role is vital for preventing accidents and ensuring compliance with international and domestic laws. Your knowledge and expertise in this role help to create a safer workplace for everyone involved in the transportation process.

What Customer Service - Dangerous Goods (DG) Specialist does:
  • Input DG details and upload DG documents into company proprietary systems
  • Submit DG applications to vessel operators and ports to obtain approvals
  • Coordinate with other departments regarding status approvals and restrictions
  • Respond to customer queries on the status of DG shipments.
  • Review technical inquiries regarding the transportation of hazardous cargo and review all related documentation and resources such as MSDS/SDS, 49 CFR, IMDG Code, Transport Canada
  • Assist with ad hoc service recovery and routing options
Qualified Candidates:
  • Work effectively under quick deadlines in a fast-moving and collaborative team environment
  • Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills, and ability to multi-task with a flexible attitude to adapt to swiftly changing priorities
  • Customer-focused, self-motivated, issue-resolving master.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • MS Office (Outlook, Excel and Word, SharePoint)
Preferred but not required skills:
  • Current Dangerous Goods certificate and/or IMDG Code working knowledge
  • Understanding classifications of Hazardous cargoes and properties
  • Industry knowledge of the shipping/container industry

Other responsibilities include technical review, understanding of regulations, ensure regulatory compliance, data entry, coordination with internal and external parties for DG approval, customer communication regarding DG approval status and technical inquiries.
