CUSTOMER ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE

OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK

Number of Positions: 2

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $50,424

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under general supervision, it provides customer service by responding to questions and complaints regarding accounts, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Interview customers in person or on the telephone to obtain information regarding billing or service complaints and questions

Reviews of customer accounting histories

Investigates and corrects account errors

explains the nature of problems and adjustments to accounts

writes account information on forms and enters information on a computer

prepares ledger entries and receipts

Calculations of installment payment schedules

Prepares payment agreements and current bills for customers

Prepares affidavits for customers' signatures, processes full payment certificates for accounts in good standing

Requests for routine and special investigations of service and billing problems; schedules shut offs and restorations of service

Writes work-related reports

Additional duties may be required for this position

Location: 121 N. LaSalle Street, Room 107

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 9am - 5 pm

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training and Experience

Two years of progressively responsible public service, customer service or clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to successfully pass a skills assessment test to pass the interview. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after they have been analyzed and compiled. The interviewed candidate(s) who possess the qualifications best suited to fulfill the position's responsibilities will be selected
