Job Title Custodian I - Housekeeper - Keokuk - Second Shift Job Description This position provides custodial services as assigned for specified areas and buildings. Operation of motor vehicles mobility and lifting is required. This is a full-time position (2,088 hours) with an hourly wage of $15.10 ($15.00 base plus $.10 shift differential). Benefits include medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, and long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid spring and Christmas breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan. This position will work Tuesday - Thursday: 3:00 - 11:30 pm Friday: 12:30 pm - 9:00 pm Saturday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Terms of employment are per bargaining agreement between SCC Board of Trustees and the SCCESA, employment contract and relevant policies of the Board of Trustees and College. Essential Duties Summary Responsibilities: Learn and embrace the comprehensive community college philosophy and related guidelines and procedures in areas of job responsibility. Learn, apply, and role-model all SCC policies and procedures, including but not limited to the strategic goals and expectations of accountability within the Administrative Services division of the College. Provide regular services to assigned area as follows (assigned area may include classrooms, offices, restrooms, student housing, and shops along with general public areas of the College): Clean and maintain building facilities. Sweep, mop (wet or dust), scrub, and vacuum floors using cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment. Clean/polish walls, ceilings, windows, and building fixtures. Gather and empty trash. Empty trash receptacles to dumpsters. Empty pencil sharpeners, clean chalkboards and erasers, arrange furniture and other duties as assigned in classrooms. Pick-up and delivery. Clean bathrooms. Clean up trash from walkways, parking lots, and grounds. Spray dust mops and clean equipment. Lock/unlock classrooms, help secure or open buildings. Follow safety procedures and have regard for the safety of others. Make equipment checks. Wash out receptacles. Wash and replace hall runners. Replace fluorescent tubes, light bulbs, and clean fixtures. Provide security lock up. Seasonally: Assist in keeping walks and parking in safe and usable condition during ice and snow weather. Able to operate mowers, tractors, snow plow trucks and snow blowers. Shovel snow from sidewalks and entrances. Complete reports (oral and written) on any maintenance problems which might need attention. Perform the necessary room/facility set-ups, including the Loren Walker Arena, for events as scheduled. Apply ethical standards to work situations; make work decisions in accordance with SCC's values and goals; show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and promote a harassment-free environment. Embrace and support constructive change; work efficiently and effectively to improve college operations. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues within and outside the Center, and general public; contribute toward building a positive team working environment; treat others with respect as a representative of SCC. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Qualifications and Experience: Education: High School diploma/equivalent required. Experience: Minimum of one year of compatible work experience required. Knowledge of: General cleaning and housekeeping procedures. Work and safety regulations. Ability to: Work without close supervision and independently. Be a self-starter, including conducting duties relevant to routine responsibilities and assigned tasks. Follow directions Accomplish tasks in an efficient and timely manner including cleanup. Operate the following listed equipment: Forklift Lawn mowers Buffer and related cleaning/floor equipment Hand tools and small power tools Snow removal equipment (snow plow trucks, tractor with front loader, snow blower) Work effectively, cooperatively, and cordially with people of diverse background and needs. Maintain a professional, courteous, and positive demeanor while effectively dealing with varied and stressful situations. To work in a strong service environment that is subject to constantly changing priorities. Lift/carry heavy items (50 or more pounds). To twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, climb stairs, lift/carry and push/pull, on a frequent basis. Constant standing and walking. Have a valid Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications Qualifications and Experience: Education: AA degree or AAS preferred. Physical Demands Must have the ability and mobility (constant standing and walking) to perform assigned duties throughout a large campus and college district. While performing job duties, the employee will be required to twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, climb stairs, lift/carry, and push/pull on a frequent basis. In addition, the employee will actively promote a positive image for the college district.
