The Crime Gun Intelligence Specialist (CGIS) Level III position provides support services related data collection and analysis. This position requires the ability to apply experience and judgment in selecting procedures to be followed in searching, interpreting, selecting, or coding items to be entered from a variety of document sources. Candidate must possess the skill and ability to analyze, summarize, report, and share information. Security Clearance Required: ATF Public Trust Clearance Workweek: Monday through Friday Hours: 8am - 4pm Flexible Hours: No The CGI Specialist Level III also performs the following tasks: Enter evidence into Integrated Ballistic Identification Systems (IBIS). Perform ballistic image and correlation reviews. Promote and Conduct comprehensive Crime Gun tracing utilizing the ATF e-Trace database and understand the crime gun tracing process/requirements and intended outcomes. Enter data into the NIBIN Enforcement Support System (NESS) and understand intended outcomes. Distribute unconfirmed hits. Assist in site management, ensure timely entry and return of hits and traces. Assist in quality control, ensure that ammunition casings are properly entered, and traces are properly conducted. Coordinate collection of crime gun intelligence from partner agencies. Promote and grow law enforcement participation within the CGI process framework including but not limited to NIBIN and e-Trace. Coordinate and conduct CGI presentations and training to agency officials. Provide IBIS training, if approved as a NIBIN authorized trainer (NAT). Handle, operate and test fire a variety of firearms and ammunition adhering to all safety procedures. Utilize crime gun intelligence to identify high value targets; merge NIBIN hits, tracing results, multiple sales, NICS and local intelligence to identify high value targets. Distribute crime gun intelligence to law enforcement partners. Track and document the results of leads provided from crime gun intelligence. Perform Site Surveys at ATF and NIBIN Partner sites as needed. Provide liaison support outside the office as required. Interview and convey the results in written form. Assistance with NIBIN MROS Compliance and Audits. Utilize NESS for daily entry of local RMS event information associated with ballistic evidence entered in NIBIN, review and triage results, and report on success stories. Coordinate the results from crime gun intelligence with: ATF Field Divisions - Crime Gun Intelligence Centers. Local law enforcement intelligence units. Other designated authorities. Assist Special Agents and CGI law enforcement partners with: Investigations involving one or more NIBIN leads. Debriefing undercover operatives, confidential informants, cooperating defendants, and witnesses to identify investigative leads. Assist in preparation of affidavits & written reports in support of NIBIN investigations. Support judicial proceedings in support of NIBIN investigations. Experience It is preferred that candidates have a minimum of five (5) years' experience supporting law enforcement investigations with local, State, or Federal law enforcement. They must possess the ability to work with and coordinate the efforts of local, State, and Federal law enforcement; to plan and complete complex projects and present those plans and projects to a group; and to identify and overcome obstacles to those plans. Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, or possession of an equivalent combination of formal education, work experience and on the job training. Position Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Valid Driver's License B.S. Degree from accredited college or university preferred. Combination of formal education, work experience and on-the-job training will be considered. Must successfully pass an ATF background investigation which includes criminal history, credit/financial queries, drug use, previous employment/education verification, and DMV records check. An active ATF Public Trust Clearance is required to perform in this role. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain an ATF Public Trust Clearance. General experience with local, State, or Federal law enforcement is preferred, but not required. Must be willing to provide a DNA sample as part of employment screening. Ability to work with and coordinate the efforts of local, State, and Federal law enforcement. Ability to analyze, summarize, report, and share information.
