General Summary of Position:

The CRF Instrument Manager will assist in the daily operations of the Materials and Chemical Characterization core lab (MCC), the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy core lab (NMR), the Lyophilization core lab (LYO), and the Thermal Mechanical Properties core lab (TMP). The primary responsibilities include self-sufficient maintenance and operation of major research infrastructure including XRD, Porosimeter, ICPOES, ICPMS, Microwave Digester, and DLS, DSC, TGA. The Instrument Manager will serve as the main point of contact for inquiries related to this equipment from faculty, students, and external clients. Additional responsibility will include providing technical expertise (assisting instrument self-users, performing chemical/structural analysis, and assisting users in developing experimental analytical design strategies) for each piece of equipment. Lastly, the Instrument Manager will in managing the operations and maintenance of a 400MHz NMR system, a pilot scale lyophilizer, a suite of HPLC, GPC, GC/MS, LC/MS, and Orbitrap/MS instruments. In addition, the Instrument Manager may be required to oversee the Thermal Mechanical Properties (TMP) lab as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • B.S. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, clinical sciences, pathology, physics, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, or other closely related disciplines.

Experience:

  • 5-7 years of demonstrated experience in scientific instrument analytical techniques along with experience in an analytical lab setting
  • General knowledge of chemistry and biochemistry research
  • Thorough understanding of high-performance liquid chromatography techniques, methods, and troubleshooting using various detectors
  • Ability to assist users with protocol and method development and problem solving
  • Well versed in scientific processes
  • Experience working within a research laboratory, clean room environment, and familiarity with quality, compliance and regulatory standards
  • Solid understanding and extensive working experience in sample preparation and laboratory operations
  • Familiarity operating a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer preferred
  • Familiarity operating a Rigaku Smartlab XRD
  • Familiarity operating both Agilent ICPOES and ICPMS
  • Familiarity operating a Micromeritics ASAP2020Plus
