JOB REQUIREMENTS: Performs surveyor duties required by Wis. Stat. 59.45 and 59.74(2). Develops and maintains a monument maintenance program through which Public Land Survey System (PLSS) corners are checked and perpetuated each year in compliance with State Statutes, Administrative Codes, and ordinances. Reviews Certified Survey Maps, plats/maps of surveys, any preliminary and final County or State Plats to ensure compliance with Wisconsin Statutes, Administrative Codes, and County & local ordinances. Makes recommendations to the Land Information Office and/or other County Staff regarding the review of the above-mentioned maps/plats. Performs records search and conducts field investigations as necessary to verify survey monuments, to make determinations in circumstances where there are conflicting survey records. Scans, files, and maintains records and maps of all survey information including plats/maps of surveys, certified surveys and PLSS tie sheets; and maintains the corresponding information in the County's GIS mapping system & online digital survey files. Performs survey work as necessary for the Planning and Zoning Department, Highway Department, Parks Department, and other County departments. Assists the County in the marking of property lines of county-owned land for sales and other county property and management activities as needed. Assists County departments in drafting real estate documents. Provides guidance to public customers, real estate related businesses, and professional land surveyors regarding surveying, mapping, and land ownership and boundaries as appropriate upon request. Performs records search, field search, and re-establishment of PLSS corners when informed of monument disturbance or destruction. Keeps up to date on all adjustments and geoid models to the Portage County Coordinate System. Assists Wisconsin Department of Transportation and/or National Geodetic Survey in maintaining WI GPS control network monuments within Portage County. Trains County personnel in GPS use. OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a Wisconsin Licensed Professional Land Surveyor, have a minimum of five years surveying experience, experience with Geographic Information Systems, Global Positioning Systems, Auto Cad, and/or other surveying software. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver's license with a good driving record. Access to an insured vehicle for work-related travel. Employee will be prohibited from performing private surveying in Portage County.
