Overview of the Cost Accountant role:

  • Maintain and update accounting records and files.
  • Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger (e.g., by assets, liabilities, and expenses).
  • Reconcile bank statements.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end closures.
  • Prepare documents for audits.
  • Apply new accounting policies and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Report to the Accounting Manager and work to improve financial processes.
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality in carrying out responsibilities.
  • Analyze budgets and create expense reports.
  • Examine tax policies and handle tax payments and returns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Conduct analysis on costing data and present potential cost-saving opportunities to management.
  • Apply principles of cost accounting to conduct in-depth studies, providing detailed financial information beyond what general accounting systems offer.
  • Maintain a weekly product cost roll-up for reporting product gross margins.
  • Analyze cost models and trends to identify potential cost savings.
  • Assist cost accountants with their weekly/monthly reporting responsibilities.
  • Create meaningful inventory reports with business SMEs, encompassing cycle count adjustments, inventory by location and species, etc.
  • Participate in other projects as needed, supporting cost and financial-related matters.

Preferred Qualifications for Senior Cost Accountant:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or finance
  • 5+ years cost in cost accounting/cost analysis
  • Large ERP software experience is a plus
