Description

At the Kentucky Department of Corrections, the Division of Education plays a crucial role supporting theDepartment and the reentry of offenders back into the community. The mission of the Division of Education isto prepare every offender through the advancement of academic achievement and work ready skills for successfulreentry.

As education corrections professionals, it is our job to assist in the rehabilitation and reentry of offendersby working within the Department, with community partners, and state agencies to increase community safety andreduce recidivism rates. The Corrections Regional Education Administrator (CREA) will manage and supervise allpersonnel, educational programming, operations, curriculum planning, and plan, facilitate, and coordinateeducational opportunities to offenders within the correctional environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ensures efficient operation of the education center(s) and all course implementation.
  • Oversees alleducational programming is operated & staffed in accordance with DOC policies/procedures, AmericanCorrectional Association (ACA) standards & Corrections Education Association (CEA) standards and maintainsappropriate documentation.
  • Conducts site and staff evaluation/reviews ensuring best practices in teaching methods/strategies &appropriate engaged classroom interactions.
  • Verify transcripts for inmate educational good time awards &submit to the education registrar for processing.
  • Plans/develops new & existing programs, enrollment, and retention strategies in collaboration withstakeholders.
  • Recommend/coordinate professional development opportunities and conduct regular staff meetings.Participates in recruitment & selection of staff to support the education center.
  • Prepares budget for review/approval, as needed, in conjunction with supervisor.
  • Monitors budgetaryallocations and expenditures as appropriate.
  • Ensure supplies/resources are ordered & used appropriately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, organization skills,technology skills, and have displayed the ability to complete work related activities in a professionalmanner. The ideal candidate should be able to multitask with the ability to plan, pay attention to detail,think critically and analyze data to forecast positive outcomes. This candidate should possess the ability towork well in a team-oriented environment and adapt to the ever-changing needs of the Department, facility, andDivision.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in education, counseling, or related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Five years of professional experience in academic or vocational education.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
