About the role
CBH of VA is looking for a highly qualified Health Service Administrator, RN to work, facilitate, and oversee the medical department at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
What you'll do
Human Resource Development and Management:
Manages, coaches, counsels, guides and otherwise supports staff in their daily work efforts. Disciplines, suspends and/or terminates employees who violate policies established by CBH or the correctional facility with the HR Manager, Regional Manager, President, and/or legal counsel.
Anticipates staffing requirements to meet operational needs. Works to determine needs and deploy resources appropriately. When necessary, interviews and selects new hires to fill open positions.
Through management decisions, communication and behavior, creates a culture and a team that works together to meet patient needs.
Completes a written yearly evaluation on all directly supervised staff and a three-month evaluation on new employees who are under direct supervision.
Monitor and evaluate physical safety environment of both patients and staff to ensure a safe working environment.
Implements, encourages, oversees, participates, and supports safety program components including development, education, training, and communications regarding mandatory OSHA trainings and employee health and safety programs.
Operational Issues:
Ensures appropriate licensure and insurance coverage on all medical personnel.
Oversee services rendered by contractors and professional staff. Audit subcontracted utilization.
Establish database from various logs to permit systems analysis and management projections. Complete and submit narrative, summary and/or operational reports as required.
Evaluate and recommend methods of improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Authorize and secure supplies and equipment for operations.
Patient Care:
Develop, revise, interpret and ensure compliance with policies, procedures and philosophy of CBH of VA.
Review the status of inmates with serious health problems, ensuring all necessary intervention and treatment is completed.
Monitor inpatient hospitalizations. Work with Medical Director to prevent inappropriate hospitalizations and to expedite discharge of unavoidable ones.
Evaluate referral system to ensure appropriateness of referrals. Work with Medical Director to obtain cost-effective services.
Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses and explores/utilizes all appropriate means of limiting both CBH and corrections' liabilities
Supervise Quality Improvement Program including patient complaints, sanitation, infection control and development of appropriate criteria.
Be available for on-call emergencies such as the death of an inmate,
Fill in RN hours to meet the needs of the matrix.
Relationship Management:
Meet with outside hospital/agency administrators to ensure a close working relationship between them and CBH.
Meet with designated wardens, jail directors and commissioners on a regular basis and follows up on issues discussed.
Functions as liaison between CBH and other professional organizations.
May be asked to travel overnight for 2-4 days.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in nursing, health care administration or business administration preferred.
Must have State RN Licensure.
Experience in administration of ambulatory care services
Three to five years of administrative/supervisory experience
Strong analytical and decision making skills
Experience in short-term and long-term planning, budgeting and contracting
