Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Correctional Dentist to join our healthcare team in Wisconsin's correctional facilities. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive dental care focused exclusively on cleanings and extractions for the incarcerated population. This role involves diagnosing, treating, and preventing oral health issues, with an emphasis on routine dental care and emergency dental procedures, in accordance with industry standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Routine Cleanings: Provide thorough dental cleanings to inmates, ensuring proper oral hygiene and preventing dental decay and gum disease.
  • Extractions: Perform simple and surgical extractions as needed, addressing tooth decay, infections, and other dental conditions that require removal.
  • Diagnostic Services: Conduct oral health assessments and determine when cleanings and extractions are necessary.
  • Preventive Care: Educate inmates on proper oral hygiene practices and preventative care to maintain oral health between visits.
  • Collaboration: Work with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care, and assist in emergency situations when applicable.
  • Inmate Advocacy: Maintain professionalism and respect while interacting with inmates, providing a compassionate approach to dental care.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate dental records, ensuring proper documentation of treatments provided, in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure all services are provided in accordance with facility protocols, state regulations, and dental practice standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.
  • Licensure:
  • Active license to practice dentistry in Wisconsin (or the ability to obtain licensure prior to employment).
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general dentistry, preferably with experience in a correctional or institutional setting.
  • Comfortable providing only cleanings and extractions. Experience with more complex dental procedures is not required.
  • Previous experience in a correctional setting is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong clinical skills with a focus on cleanings and extractions.
  • Ability to work independently while following correctional facility protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures clearly to patients.
  • Ability to manage patient care in a correctional environment, balancing clinical needs with security requirements.

Additional Requirements:

  • Background Check: Successful completion of a background check, including criminal history, is required for employment in a correctional setting.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform clinical dental procedures, stand for extended periods, and work in various correctional settings.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: Starting at $300,000 per year, with potential for growth based on experience and tenure. Paychecks are paid weekly, options on a 10-99 allows for a higher salary if requested.
