Job Summary:
Well established real estate development company, is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Corporate Controller to lead our accounting and financial reporting functions. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Corporate Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and providing insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making. This is a critical leadership role requiring a strong understanding of GAAP, excellent management skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and growing environment.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulations, and legal requirements.
- Manage the year-end audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring a clean and efficient audit.
- Prepare and file all required regulatory reports and tax filings accurately and on time.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and efficient operations.
General Ledger & Accounting Operations:
- Manage the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other accounting functions.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting and operations.
- Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and achievable budgets.
- Monitor budget performance against actual results, analyze variances, and provide insightful explanations to management.
- Develop and maintain financial forecasting models to project future financial performance.
Analysis & Decision Support:
- Perform in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
- Prepare insightful financial reports and presentations for senior management and the executive team.
- Provide financial support and analysis for strategic initiatives and business decisions.
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track financial performance and drive accountability.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Recruit, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
- Promote teamwork and collaboration within the accounting department and across the organization.
Other Responsibilities:
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives and provide financial input.
- Assist with mergers and acquisitions due diligence and integration.
- Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions.
- Undertake ad-hoc projects and analyses as required by the CFO.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.
- 20+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 7+ years in a management role.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems (Yardi) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
