Who We Are At MSP, we strongly believe that integrating a world-changing approach into all areas of our work is essential to ending domestic violence and human trafficking. Our dynamic and diverse team of compassionate advocates is working to create a world in which every individual has the basic human right to be free from gender-based violence and to engage in relationships that embrace the principles of respect, equality, and safety.
MSP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, responding to domestic violence and human trafficking in Westchester County, New York, by providing multi-lingual, trauma-informed legal and supportive services. We bolster our work with clients by engaging in extensive outreach and community education, strengthening the systemic response to all forms of gender-based violence.
Who You Are The
Coordinator of Volunteer Initiatives (CVI) brings creative and strategic approaches and interpersonal skills to this role, integrating with the development team to build engagement opportunities with individual, corporate, and community group volunteers. The CVI provides an important link between MSP programs and the diverse community at large, establishing new and strengthening ongoing relationships. In addition, the CVI manages and enhances MSP's student internship program.

What You'll DoSister-in-Law (SIL) accompaniment program The CVI develops and expands MSP's specially trained corps of volunteers who provide MSP clients with supportive telephone interpretations, document translations, accompaniment to appointments at family and immigration court, interactions with government agencies, interviews or in other contexts where clients may need encouragement. The CVI will:
- Recruit, interview, screen and train new volunteers
- Develop and update training materials
- Convene volunteers on a quarterly basis for ongoing training and peer-to-peer support
- Partner with MSP attorneys and counselors to schedule SIL support
- Monitor program outcomes using Apricot database and meet funders' grant reporting requirements
Individual, Corporate, Community Groups volunteer programs The CVI is an integral part of the Development Team collaborating to strengthen community engagement opportunities, outreach and resource development. Activities include:
- Interview, train, and schedule new and experienced volunteers for various opportunities including in-kind management, administrative tasks, and agency events
- Create meaningful volunteer opportunities that support program needs and the agency as a whole
- Maintain and update a list of active and lapsed volunteers, corporations, and community groups
- Cultivate, maintain, and deepen individual, corporate, community, and local non-profit relationships
- Give presentations on MSP's mission, guidelines, and services to corporate, community, and other groups
Intern Programs - Recruit and liaise with supervisors of student interns
- Liaise with all departments to identify intern projects
- Maintain on-going intern contact and engage in "alumni events"
- Assess and expand intern program
Other - Support MSP's philosophy and guiding principles
- Work closely to facilitate ongoing conversations around MSP's volunteer philosophy
- Develop and maintain strong and supportive partnerships with neighboring agencies
- Co-coordinate in-kind program/donations, providing leadership across teams to address client needs
- Plan and facilitate volunteer appreciation events
- Assist with agency/staff/client events
- Participate in agency wide committee work as needed
What You Bring Bachelor's degree and 4 years' experience working in a nonprofit or other setting with community groups. In addition, candidate must:
- be available on occasional weekends and evenings
- able to assist with in-kind donation deliveries
- Work well cross-departments and with diverse communities
- Other language proficiencies a plus
