Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Management, Communications, Public Relations, or Sports Management or in a related field. Two years of experience in a related field. Experience in collegiate athletics is preferred.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs moderately complex work implementing marketing, promotions, and ticketing programs for the Department of Athletics through the Sam Houston State University Integrated Marketing Communications Division.

Primary Responsibilities:

Develops and implements marketing and promotional strategies to enhance attendance, fan experience during athletic events, and overall brand growth. Provides leadership and oversight for marketing initiatives and supervises staff and ensures the execution of high-quality promotional campaigns. Directly supervises student workers, part-time staff, and interns, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations. Oversees the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of student marketing assistants and event support staff. Assigns tasks and monitors progress to ensure the timely execution of marketing strategies, game-day operations, and promotional campaigns. Leads team meetings and training sessions to ensure all staff members are aligned with department goals and standards. Manages workflow, delegating responsibilities to ensure efficient operations on game days and during special events. Conducts regular check-ins with staff to assess performance, provide feedback, and address any operational challenges. Develops and oversees the implementation of marketing plans for intercollegiate athletic teams and events. Prepares and executes detailed game scripts, including music direction, video content, public address announcements, and spirit squads, ensuring a high-quality fan experience for assigned sports. Promotes revenue generation opportunities and coordinates sponsorship activation and in-game presentations. Acts as a liaison for campus spirit groups and student organizations and schedules/coordinates event entertainment (halftime/intermission acts, national anthem singers, etc.) at Sam Houston Athletics home contests. Collaborates with sports teams to create seasonal event packages and promotional events. Assists in publishing content onto various social media platforms and works closely with third-party sports property agents to create attractive promotional packages for sponsorships. Works with Ticket Office to develop and implement season, single-game, and group sales campaigns. Coordinates with communications, media production, ticketing, and event management to prioritize the fan experience at all events. Develops and implements events and promotions that contribute to seasonal marketing calendars. Works with vendors on and off campus to produce necessary promotional and support items for events while managing established budgets. Establishes goals and strategies for assigned projects and ensures marketing objectives are met. Maintains accurate records of marketing campaigns, staff scheduling, and event attendance data for analysis and reporting. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requires excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws. Ability to supervise business functions. Communicates with other university departments, personnel, and other agencies. Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and related software is preferred.

Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
