Job Description
Girl Scouts San Diego is looking for a fulltime Cook to join the Food Services team at our beautiful Julian camp properties.

Working in collaboration with the Food Services Manager, the Cook will assist in the development, preparation and serving of nutritious and balanced meals and snacks, for council summer camps and weekend program events, and school lunch program.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook and serve nutritionally balanced meals and snacks, for summer camps, weekend program events, school lunch program, and other camp site events.
  • In collaboration with the Food Services Manager plan menus and food items for summer camps, camp program events and school lunch program. Ensure special dietary needs or restrictions are incorporated in meal planning and preparation.
  • Monitor food inventories ensuring that necessary ingredients are available and as fresh as possible while also minimizing spoilage and waste. Receive, unpack, and store and organize food and supplies.
  • Ensure on-time readiness, setup and delivery of meals and snacks, taking into consideration transport times and distances.
  • Assist in training kitchen assistants and support staff.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas, ensuring dishes, utensils and cooking equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Compliance with county, state, and local health department food service safety standards and preparation regulations, and council policies and/or procedures.
  • Assist in emergency response situations (fire, evacuation, illness or injury), ensuring adherence to safety practices, protocols and guidelines.
  • Completion of other duties assigned to support council goals and objectives.
Experience and Skills
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a commercial kitchen environment, preparing food for large groups.
  • Experience with a school lunch program, or in a camp food service environment is a plus
  • Experience with menu planning for large and small groups.
  • Experience using high-quality and seasonal fresh ingredients
  • Ability to follow recipes, use measurement tools when appropriate.
  • Experience cooking in a high-volume environment is highly preferred
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, lift, carry and move items, and reach, bend and stoop.
  • Current/valid ServSafe Certification
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work in a professional manner in a fast-paced youth-focused environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to handle conflict and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive collaborative working relationships.
  • Able to work in Julian, in a camp environment with varying weather and temperatures.
  • Must be able to walk (on uneven terrain) and stand for long periods of time; ability to lift and/or push up to 50lbs.
  • Reliable transportation; ability to arrive on time for assigned work shift(s).
  • Available and willing to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Position is located in Julian, CA.

Pay Range: $20 - $24 per hour.
