Job Description

The Cook is responsible for planning and organizing, implementing activities, record keeping and reporting; training, supervising and guiding, and supporting and collaborating to ensure the effective delivery of nutrition services. Responsible for the full range of kitchen duties. Directs the activities of the Cook Assistants and food services volunteers. Recruit volunteers and children for enrollment in Head Start. Perform other duties and assignments directed by management.

Qualifications

High School Diploma with two (2) years food services preparation, quantity cooking and menu planning. Must possess Serve Safe Certification.

Must pass Criminal Background and Child Abuse Central Registry checks. Must meet state health requirements.





  • Manage the kitchen assistants ensuring all kitchen duties

  • Uphold cleanliness standards for kitchen operations, kitchen equipment, and kitchen tools

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and safety in the kitchen and catering area

  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene

  • Help the kitchen staff to maintain a spotlessly clean and tidy kitchen ensuring cleaning schedules is adhered to.

  • Create new menus ensuring healthy eating guidelines and special dietary requirements.

  • Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards and presentation standards

  • Promote and monitor food hygiene and safety standards, carry out risk assessments and clean the kitchen to a high standard

  • Cook and prepare food according to the requirements of the menu, whilst maintaining all aspects of food safety within the kitchen

  • Motivate a kitchen team ensuring all kitchen staff are clear about duties and conduct regular supervisions

  • Prepare, cook and serve meals to a high standard

  • Instructed and follows proper procedures to cook food
