Firefly Children & Family Alliance is hiring a temporary Cook in Indianapolis, Indiana. The cook provides meals according to the guidelines set forth by the Board of Health and licensing requirements. The cook writes menus on a four week cycle, posts them and prepares. Other responsibilities encompass prep work, daily cleaning, and ordering merchandise and supplies, rotating and stocking incoming food. Also, the cook will prepare food (as specified by event) for multiple agency meetings or events.
You Will:
  • Operate all kitchen equipment.
  • Follow and write recipes for food preparation
  • Prepare and serve food according to the schedule provided.
  • Log daily meal count and the cost of meals for the Indiana Department of Education School Lunch program and completing daily food production sheets.
  • Order, rotate, and stock incoming food and label items properly.
  • Clean and sanitize work surfaces according to guidelines, this includes all kitchen equipment and dishes.
  • Per guidelines wear a clean uniform and apron, along with a hair net/hat.
  • Prepare meals by guidelines provided; make them nutritious and attractive
  • Meet dietary needs of residents with physician ordered "special diets" (i.e. diabetic, low-cal, high-cal).
  • Cover food preparation (following same responsibilities above) for other residential settings (vacation, sick, other time off).
  • Occasional evening or weekend work.
  • Perform any other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor.
  • It is understood that each employee follows and follows the professional standards as outlined by your professional degree or license and agency expectations.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings
You Have:
  • High School Diploma
  • 2 Years of experience in food prep, cooking and kitchen operations.
  • Food Protection Certification and ability to pass Certification.
  • Flexibility in scheduling.
  • Experience with cooking and running kitchen.
  • Provide meal planning within budget parameters.
  • Knowledge in the writing of menus, according to guidelines.
  • Work in partnership with other team members.
  • Knowledge of cultural differences present among organizations employees and service population.
  • Valid Driver's License and Insurance is required. Must not have 4 or more points on their driving record.
